After Art's hearing test in Aiea, we decided to try a different place for lunch. Art looked on Yelp and found a place called Young's Kal Bee.
We were there around noon and the place was already pretty packed. We figured it must be a good place.
We got there a little late because we had the hardest time finding it going round and round the parking lot where several restaurants and other establishments are grouped in a maze like area.
The restaurant resembles a hole in the wall eatery.
We ordered the Lunch Special: BBQ chicken, Meat Jun, Fried Man Doo, 3 vegetables, rice and kim chee $10.55
This seaweed soup arrived first and we figured it would be a comfortable light meal with smaller serving sizes.
Ummmmmm......
We were really surprised when this HUGE plate of food arrived. Art and I could have just shared one plate. It was very tasty and I ate so much I was feeling pretty bloated and uncomfortable.
We brought home what we couldn't finish and there were still left over after dinner for tomorrow's lunch!
I can't wait for my son-in-law (who happens to be Korean American) to come some day. We're already planning to take him there almost as soon as the plane lands.

Looks onolicious! I must try that restaurant. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteThat was a pile of food. Getting three meals out if--I'd say you got your money's worth. It does look yummy.
ReplyDeleteWas this all supposed to be eaten by ONE person? I too think you certainly got your money's worth. Three meals for $10 is a good deal, especially with good food. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd we did see more than one person eating a meal like ours by themselves.
Deletenever tried Korean food but I like Chinese and Thai food...
ReplyDeleteThe food looks fantastic. I should try yelp more often.
ReplyDeleteI love getting restaurant recommendations from Yelp and Urban Spoon. When we go on vacation later in the year we're considering relying totally on them instead of guide book recommendations.
ReplyDeleteIt is always fun to find a new restaurant that you really like.....especially one with such good value. The food does look good.
ReplyDeleteYum! I love Korean food. I could just eat the rice and the little dishes of kimchi, veggies, and whatever else by themselves. For me a good bowl of tofu chigae stops a cold in its track. Hello. Came by via Manzanita's Wanna Buy a Duck.

Husband loves Korean food and will be sure to tell him about this eatery. That's a very good price for Korean plate lunch. Most will serve it only take out at that price.
ReplyDeleteL...w
No kidding. They gave as much as Yummy's.
DeleteGood choice, Art. Art! :-)
ReplyDeleteAloha
My sister taught herself to cook Korean food when they found out the child they were adopting from Seoul would be four years old, rather than an infant. We all enjoyed Korean cuisine while she was learning, and even after we discovered the little one only wanted to eat rice!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you and Art hit a bonanza, and I'm sure your son-in-law will be pleased.

I love that Korean food but can't eat it because it is very high in sodium. Eager to hear what Art is planning to do about his hearing loss.
ReplyDeleteI think Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Thai food are pretty salty. I can't understand why Korean food is usually so much more reasonable than Japanese food.
DeleteYour Korean lunch looked yummy and a challenge. Never had the good fortune of trying Korean cuisine!
ReplyDeleteThen I would recommend you not starting off with Kim chee. It's very spicy... Usually.
DeleteThat was a lot and reasonable also. Next time you can order one and share and probably still have left overs. Such a deal.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a lot! Portion control is a hard thing for me...
ReplyDeleteAh well.
Love reading you. I'm REALLY behind in my blog visits. Hubby has stomach issues, several hospice clients with THEIR issues...
take care
Come to think of it, I don't recall any Korean restaurants here, though Chinese, Japanese, and Thai places do pretty well.
ReplyDeleteWow! With a lunch like that you wouldn't need dinner!
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to find a new place to eat, and plenty of left-overs to take home for another meal.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE korean food, unfortunately in hawaii too many of them seem to think MSG is the most important food group so I can't indulge very often :( That plate looked very reminiscent of the old Kim Chee III near McKinley High School, but I think they've closed down; they had the best meat jun of any korean restaurant I've been to, bar none. And their kochooojang sauce! Awesome!
ReplyDeletewalt
MSG? No kidding??? I didn't know that. Must be why it tastes so good.
