It was Art's 70th birthday that brought all of our family together. Art has always started his birthdays off with an early morning run.
Normally, he'll quietly sneak out of the house when it's still dark so he doesn't wake me. What? Did you actually think I would run with him?
You can imagine how happy he was to have Sarah, Tif and Keola all join him for his birthday run this year. It was very special. Some day, perhaps KC will also join them. I will take pictures.
Another tradition is his birthday watermelon. Can you see the candle?
Yes, it's true. Art loves watermelon much more than cake.
Art received many wonderful gifts to celebrate his birthday. Among them were bonsai tools and gift cards to his favorite stores.
Then there was this framed map of the Chicago transit system from Keola and Sarah. Art knew every one of the lines since he rode the train daily to go to work.
We then had a wonderful birthday luncheon at the Prince Court restaurant in Waikiki.
I wish Art's sister could have been here too, but she is unable to travel right now.
It amazes us that time has flown so quickly. Art never seems to worry about how old he is, only how old he feels. He's happy because he feels just fine. Art has been meticulous about what he eats and how he exercises and it shows in his energy level.
Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring, but he is enjoying life which is the most important thing, especially with family surrounding him.
Now he's wanting to go back to visit Europe. I need to go take some vitamins.

Well, happy birthday Art. Good health to you. More people need to fallow Art's good example.
ReplyDeleteHaving the kids converge for dad's 70th is the best present a parent could wish for. His heart must have been full!!

DeleteHappy Birthday to Art
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday to Art. We share that birth time of summer 1944. You might have seen the blog about the party I threw for myself with lots of family and friends.
ReplyDeleteI can't run like Art does, but I do try to walk 3 to 4 miles a day as often as I can. With cooler weather coming., I plan pick up my activity level. I know have to keep moving in order to retain mobility.
Your family celebration was wonderful. How very special to have had your family there for this milestone.
what a wonderful reunion, happy 70th to Art, wishing him many more healthy ones to come!
ReplyDeleteI can't think of anything better than celebrating a birthday with family. I hate big parties and woe betide anyone who tries to give me a surprise party (no-one ever has, they know better!) but family time is special. Many happy returns to Art, he's looking great.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Art! That's what eating right, exercising, and having a loving family looks like!! Holly
ReplyDeleteHe really does try to take care of himself, just like you guys.
DeleteA wonderful family gathering to celebrate. A little late but Happy Birthday Art! You are a great role model for us all.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Art. You are ageless. How wonderful that everyone focused on things that would delight you. You are obviously loved.
ReplyDeleteI wish my hubby liked to travel like yours...many more happy years together!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, more vitamins. What a truly great birthday. Happy birthday, Art.
ReplyDeleteHappy new 71st year of life, Art! As the blessings in Hebrew says, "Ad meah ve'esrim," may you live to age 120.
ReplyDeleteEurope, yay! Maybe with a side trip to the eastern end of the Med?
Happy Belated Birthday to Art! He is way fitter than me. It is so heart warming to see the whole family waking up early to run with him on his birthday.
ReplyDeleteI can't see the candle for the watermelon! :(
I agree, a convergence! What a lovely post.
