Sigh... Tall, But Not Fruiful

We were rather astonished at the growth of our Satsuma tangerine tree this spring.

We planted the baby Satsuma on March 13, 2013 and in just a little over two years it stretched itself so that it's now quite a bit taller than me.

This was the first time that little buds were seen.


We were ecstatic, overjoyed and thrilled to see quite a number of buds and flowers. After the flowers fell away, we could see the beginnings of teeny little fruits. However, too soon we saw the little fruits fall off... every one of them.

Sigh....

We are Chicago Cubs fans. We  always believe.... maybe next year.

I looked it up because I do remember that Cubby prediction in Back to the Future II. Sure enough, I got this from the Futurepedia website:

    same thing happened to me with my apple tree. i have only 2 apples on the whole tree!

    Awww.... You made me laugh at the Cubs reference. Not being a follower, I could only surmise that they never win. But you will, one day you will have fruit! And I hope I live to see it. :-)

    I wonder why that happens, I know sometimes inconsistent watering can cause it with other plants, such a shame but there is always next year!!

    Lets pray for a fruitful next year ;-} ...
    This may be the year for the Cubs....fans we are as well, and I love what Madden is doing. I absolutely think it is our best infield ever !! Got to meet Mr. Ricketts last year !! GO CUBS !!!

    I know you didn't get a freeze like what happens here. Most years
    I get all kinds of blossoms on the apricot trees and then we get
    a late freeze and kaput goes the fruit.

    That happened to my baby lemons, too.. The first - and only! - time they ever set fruit. Stay hopeful!

    Not to worry, it will happen. Sometimes, because of our weather and not really having 4 seasons, trees will flower and fruit anytime during the year. Good luck to your trees and team!

    we have the same problem with our stubby dwarf peach tree-this year's it's covered with fruit and they seem to be ripening! Just holding our breath after 8 years of nothing...lol!
