We still haven't around to putting up a Christmas tree this year. Everything just got away from us. However we did make our annual trip to the Angel tree.
This year Art had an 11 year old boy named Keith and I had a 6 year old girl named Elena. They wanted a backpack, a Frozen doll and Playdoh.
We have learned to be a little more selective about which child we choose. We have found the more generic requests easier to fulfill. The mother of a little toddler asked one year for a Fisher Price Learning piggy bank. It's a great toy, but none of the stores we visited had them. Sears, Toys R Us, Walmart, K Mart, Target, etc... nobody. I even called stores on the other side of the island and finally had to sadly give up.
We were able to find things for Keith and Elena easily this year and I think they'll be quite happy.
Although we don't have a tree up this year, we're feeling pretty cheerful and wish you a happy celebration as well.

We never put up a tree, but it's just the two of us and no kids to appreciate it anyway. That's so sweet of you and Art to give Keith and Elena those gifts. :-)
ReplyDeleteNo tree near us this year. Normally there's one up on the mesa, but that store is now closed. We will quietly find one before the actual holiday arrives. So glad you are both feeling better.

ReplyDeleteI save up money for the holidays and give Target gift cards in $10.00 increments for teens in our area in foster care, they get so little & many transition at 18 having nothing to set up in an apt..So we also give to this sweet lady tons of kitchen stuff new and towels, it makes us feel great..I lived in foster care it was living nightmare on earth the people who tormented me my baby sister and brother all died terrible deaths, even their kids never went to their funerals (alcoholc) I live in Washington state which is better at placing foster kids many are adopted by the people who care for them..Aloha in paradise! God's peace, joy and love to you for your care of kids who get so very little in life, Karma is wonderful, I can live a great life and I know you both do so aloha!
ReplyDeleteIt's great you can get those gifts for the kids. One year I donated a Turkey to my church, it was frozen and so heavy!
ReplyDeleteI'd put some more toys in the backpack if that kid just wanted a backpack. Sounds like a depressing Christmas if that's all they wanted.
ReplyDeleteI do like adopting a child to find gifts for...but you are so right. A generic kind of wish is much more satisfying in terms of feeling like you actually fulfilled it. I remember when my own daughter wanted a Cabbage Patch Kid and they were so hard to find. We finally ended up driving to Montreal and found one there.

ReplyDeletethis is a lovely project and I think it will give a lot of happiness to the giver and recipient. I have a lot of finishing to do, but all my presents are at least bought....This weekend is going to be a crazy wrapping marathon, while listening to Christmas music.....
