Guilty Pleasure

Our Zumba Gold classes have been on summer hiatus for the past couple of weeks, but my friends and I still needed to exercise. Trouble is, we find it hard to motivate ourselves to do it.

Last year one of my Zumba buddies suggested going walking at the mall in the early morning before the stores opened and it worked out perfectly. We spent an hour walking and then sat around in the food court for another hour (or more) chatting. We're doing it again this year.

Well, last week Art and I had some teas at Starbucks. Darn, but it's expensive! Still, it's a reward for the exercise we accomplished. I decided to try something different from the usual fruity teas I get.

I ordered the Chai Latte. When I got it, I was disappointed to find it was HOT! As I sat sweating with my friends staring at the hot tea, I just couldn't get myself to drink it.

That's when my daughter called me from Chicago on the cellphone and I quickly told her about my goof.

"Mom," she said. "You should go back and tell them that you wanted the iced version.  And be sure to make an sorrowful face."

I did.

But I felt really guilty because it was my mistake. I didn't know you had to ask for an ICED chai latte. The counter girl wasn't thrilled, but was polite. Sigh...

Anyway, the iced chai latte was very good and I really needed the ice.
However, I think I'll go back to the fruity tea next time.

  1. I think I had their iced coffee and it was good. It was lightly sweetened.

  2. Daisy seems to like the colder coffees more, I never drink coffee or anything related

  3. When it's really hot here I get iced coffee and enjoy it very much, but the chai tea is a bit sweet for me. Glad you went back and got what you really wanted. :-)

  4. I think it would never have occurred to me that tea or coffee wouldn't be hot unless specifically requested iced. We are creatures of habit. I have to have coffee in the morning and it has to be hot, doesn't matter the air temperature outside.

  7. Ironically, we don't go to Starbucks for the coffee. We go there to buy sandwiches.

  8. I'm not a fan of much of anything at Starbucks. Their coffee is too strong for my taste. Haven't tried their teas however. I would not like the Chai I don't think but you never know. I'm always amazed at how often our daughter buys Starbucks. You're right it is expensive.

  9. As everyone knows, I am a Starbucks fan, but I almost always have hot lattes. I am not really a fan of teas, and cold coffee just isn't the same.
But Starbucks does guarantee satisfaction and will remake your drink if you are not happy. So good on them, and good on you for being bold enough to ask for it.

  12. I think as long as you own up to your mistake, people will be willing to help you. My recent experience with Planned Parenthood, where I found out I was giving them too much money, showed me that being honest about one's shortcomings is always the best policy in these situations.
Do they serve iced coffee with ice cream? That was my favorite drink in Germany.

  13. Tea is best hot and black. It has lots of zip. If I told you I like boiled tea I would for sure get razzed.

  16. Not a huge fan of Starbucks, but I know that I am in the minority! I like walking @ the mall, too, especially when it is simply too hot to do it outdoors.

  17. The nearest mall is 40 miles away. I live in a small dying town. But I love it here. There is very little crime and everyone is friendly. I know many people. That's a small town for you.

  18. I order my coffee beans from ONE REALLY GREAT COFFEE on e-Bay. I buy their Jamaican Me Crazy brand and it is awesome. Don't think Starbucks could compare and mine is definitely less expensive.

  19. Ah Kay, our daughters know so much better than we do the ways of the world. :)
BTW, did you hear on the news a few days ago? Now it is OK to drink coffee, but very hot drinks over 65 C / 150 F can lead to esophageal cancer.
