Exercise Maintenance with Mall Walking

Our Zumba class has been on summer hiatus from mid May until August so my Zumba buddies and I have been meeting at the mall on Mondays and Wednesdays before the stores open to do some mall walking.

I like it because it's cooler and we don't have to worry about the harsh sunlight. You'd think the mall would be empty, but it's full of other seniors taking advantage of the easy walk. We walk for an hour which totals three miles.

But the best part of all is hanging out with friends and then having a little Starbucks break afterwards together. Yes, I  know we're just drinking the calories back in, but it feels good.

Another benefit is every first and third Monday, the hospital has volunteers taking our blood pressure and glucose.

And so far... we're doing pretty great!

  2. I think it's a wonderful way to get exercise with friends when it's really hot outside! :-)

  6. How nice! My blood pressure has been rising. This would be a great way to monitor it as well as keep it in check.
btw, I tried Starbucks iced chai latte and asked for 2 ice cubes. They put more than 2 but the order went in as light ice. It lasted a couple of days for me in the refrigerator that way (I ordered the large size) and it was good! A bit expensive, but good!

  8. Good for you and your exercise buddies. We are still able to walk outside, but we are going earlier as the weather warms up again.

  10. Terry and I did a seven mile hike day before yesterday at Bend, Oregon. It was nice to be somewhere that is comfortable for hiking, although it did get a bit too warm toward the end, when it was almost noon.
I love walking and hiking but don't know if I could care that much about mall walking, even with good company. Luckily, at home, we can go up to Volcanoes National Park, where it's cooler, and hike there.

  12. We have no mall here in this small town but we do have exercises three days a week at the senior center. I do that and flowerbeds for exercise.

  13. You must walk at a pretty fast clip. Maybe the difference is that its all level.

  14. For me in Maine, mall-walking is done in January, when it's bitterly cold and it's icy "underfoot."
