Winter in Hawaii

I warned Keola and Sarah that it does get cold in Hawaii. Since they live in Maryland and grew up in Chicago and Michigan, they didn't take me entirely seriously. After a few days though, they agreed that it can get a little cool although different parts of the island varies in temperature and weather conditions.

They're back on the mainland now where the temperature is at this moment 24 degrees F.

Mom got up last week telling me her fingers were turning numb and she couldn't get over how freezing it was. We checked our thermometer which read 62 degrees F.

OK... That's a bit chilly.

However, Art says it was perfect for his early morning jog.

My daughter says it was 9 degrees F in Chicago. Telling mom that didn't seem to make her feel any warmer though.

  1. I cannot help but wonder it temps would ever be too cool for me. Because of my fat I am well insulated and would probably burn up in Hawaii.

  2. I do not remember cold days in Hawaii except when we stayed with friends who lived on the side of a hill in Maui and I woke up one morning freezing!!

  3. I think 62 degrees is a bit chilly, for inside temperatures. Brrr! :-)

  4. It is amazing how relative temperature is. Here in Florida, people are bundled upon jackets, hats, mittens if the thermometer dips into the fifties. On the same day, temps in the fifties would find Vermonters out in shorts, tee shirts and sandals.

  5. Here on the coast, we are getting up to 62 mid-day. Chilly for a day time temperature for us. Nights in the 40s'.

  6. 62 would require a sweater and would be chilly indoors especially.

  7. 63F is what we are keeping our thermostat on. We gradually went down to save energy. Your body gets used to it

  8. Hi There, That looks quite cold for Hawaii... Of course, I have never been there ---but in my mind, your weather was ALWAYS warm or hot.... Shows me what I didn't know!!!! ha ha

We have had some crazy weather here in the mountains of TN... We had a little snow and almost 0 degrees a week or so ago --and now we are having spring-like weather. It's 55 degrees at 10 a.m. CRAZY....

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  9. Sixty two! Poor mom. I've read the thermostat setting should match the age of elderly residents. Though I'm 74, I keep the house at 66. Sixty four overnight.

  15. We are in Seattle, where it is 46 degrees, which is the warmest it's been since we got here. Of course our place is warm and cozy and comfortable.

  16. It's all relative, isn't it. I have no trouble going out for a walk when it is 32 degrees, but in the evening, sitting still, I bundle up with the heat set at 70.

  17. When we lived in Utah an early-morning temp of 40 on a sunny day meant time to get ready for a golf game. Now in Michigan, an early morning temp of 40 means time for a prayer of thanksgiving.
