There is that Las Vegas motto, What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas. Since that horrible shooting tragedy, the motto is obviously no longer being used.
However, this idea of things that happen in certain places or times that are kept unknown to others reminded me of that slogan.
Art goes walking before the sun comes up and walks 2-6 miles. He comes home around the time I come down for breakfast. He will often text me photos of what he sees.
I lightened this photo so you could better see what's happening. We have a terrible feral chicken problem on several islands. Art was surprised to see this lady with a huge bag of bird food feeding the chickens. If she wants to do this, why not do it at her house instead of driving elsewhere to feed the chickens that end up being in nuisance in that neighborhood?
I just hope Art doesn't run into a burglar or whatever in his early morning walks.

Here are feral cats having a gathering.
We have something called Bulk Pick-Up once a month when people leave things on the sidewalk that are too big for the regular garbage pick-up. At night, scavengers in trucks will drive around to pick up useful items before the city comes by. It is illegal, but sounded like a good idea to me.

There is a day in the spring when college students who are leaving are urged to place unwanted furnishings out near the sidewalk so others can "shop" and take items that would otherwise end up in the landfill. I'm not sure what the advantage of making it illegal to pick up discarded items might be?

ReplyDeleteInteresting goings on so early in the morning. Glad it's Art and not me. I'm not a morning person at all. We have twice a year large bulk pick up. I don't think it's illegal for others to pick it up before the scheduled pick up. We know others come around and grab what they can repurpose. (Less cost for the city/neighborhood if there's less to pick up.) I've gotten rid of lots of reusable things just putting them on the curb with a "FREE" sign. Gone within 24 hours or less usually. ReplyDeleteI give my stuff to a thrift store, our church has several large ones that employ those without jobs to fix up the stuff and sell it.

ReplyDeleteUP in NH where daughter lives, they put things out at curbside for anyone passing who may want. There's also the swap shop at their recycling/refuse collection center.

ReplyDeleteI think the feral chicken explosion on Kauai happened after that awful hurricane years ago. When I lived in Hawaii there were no feral chickens that I saw. I do not know why people cannot pick up stuff before the trash people come!

ReplyDeleteHate to burst your bubble. Those aren't feral cats... next time, listen to them. Soon as the humans are out of earshot, they start the real meeting and discuss what they will hit when they finally overthrow the stupid humans and their dogs. Those discussions get pretty ugly... Now, the chickens... are just chickens. They don't organize well, so even though they want to overthrow the humans, they always get distracted by the damn worms...

We can put out bulk items any time, but it costs 4 stickers, which are $2 apiece.
