This past Christmas we had a fabulous meal that we loved so much, we repeated it for Valentines Day. Now we're thinking it's going to be our favorite celebration meal from now on.
It all started with our splurging on sea scallops at Sam's Club. It was a bit pricey, but we decided to get it since scallops is one of her favorite food.
I was a bit nervous about cooking the scallops since we tried once before and it was a bit tough. This time we looked online first. Good grief! I discovered what we did wrong the last time. We OVERcooked it.
The recipe I saw online said you're only supposed to pan fry the scallops in butter or olive oil for 5 minutes at the most. It made all the difference.
We bought the same sushi (S Nigiri) from Kozo Sushi. That green lump on the plate is wasabi to dip in the sushi. Mom made miso soup with daikon and okra. I made the green salad with Italian dressing. Another very important part of the meal was the sake (yes, it's true) that my brother and sister-in-law had given mom for Christmas. It was wonderful and complemented the meal perfectly.
Dessert was fruitcake with whipped cream.
There were NO leftovers!

This looks utterly delicious. We love miso soup and sushi and salad. And we love scallops, too, though I have never cooked them.
ReplyDeleteI know how hot that wasabi is, even though it looks so innocuous. The entire meal looks so delicious to me! :-)
ReplyDeletewell i like shrimp does that count? lol!
ReplyDeleteDaisy found some reasonable sushi from Aldi. She ate it all within two days
ReplyDeleteits such a beautiful meal as well, a joy to look at, a feast for the eyes!!
ReplyDeleteSounds wonderful, and no leftovers from me, either.
ReplyDeletescallops are one of my most favorite things to eat but only when they are cooked correctly. so many places ruin them. what a nice meal!
ReplyDeleteAh, perfection...all but the okra. What a delightful meal.
ReplyDeleteWhat about using olive oil and Japanese flavored vinegar for the dressing. I like that with many foods.
In 1978, when I first moved to Hawaii, some local people invited me to dinner at the Pagoda Restaurant. The wasabi looked tasty, so I bit into a big chunk. I thought i was going to die. WASABI IS HOT! I since have learned to mix a smidgeon with soy sauce and it does add some delightful oomph if lightly dipped. I have thought about writing a murder mystery in which Green Tea Ice Cream is actually a scoop of wasabi. The victim is tricked into downing a cone of wasabi "ice cream" and promptly suffers the consequences. The title would be "Murder by Wasabi."
ReplyDeleteI love scallops and am sure I have also overcooked them, thanks for the reminder, if I ever try again.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! I love scallops, too. And yes, they get like rubber!
ReplyDeleteI put them on my grocery list and hubby bought some for me! I'm going to do a stir-fry!
DeleteYum!!! I love scallops! Such a nice meal!
ReplyDeleteTom orders scallops in restaurants sometimes. I prefer shrimp. But we have been indulging on Dungeness crab here. We're had crab four times since the season finally opened in mid January. We had them last night, but now the season is drawing to a close and the price will be going up.
ReplyDeleteKeep those descriptions coming in. we never see food like that. It sounds good.
ReplyDeleteMy at-home celebration meal is homemade French fries. haha
