Yahoo Search Engine Update Pop-Up

I really don't know what to trust on the computer anymore.

I have occasionally gotten pop up windows on my Dell desktop computer that says I need an update or an upgrade or whatever. Do I click on it or what?

This popped up on my window the other day.

I texted my daughter and son-in-law since I've never seen it before. My daughter texted back that if I don't use the Yahoo search engine I should UNinstall it.

Riiiiighhhhttt....

It took me a while before I finally found the UNinstall thing in my Systems folder.

Then I checked online to see what was going on. Turned out a lot of people were wondering about this pop-up.

I read one website that said the Firefox browser had changed its default from Google to Yahoo.

Aha! So that's why I got that pop up.

I looked online again and found directions to change my search engine on the Firefox browser back to Google.

OK... I'm done.

I sure hope I did it correctly.

If not, there's always my techie son-in-law or brother.

  2. I'm always learning something new from you, Kay. I use Safari and Chrome as browsers so I didn't get that popup. :-)

  5. I once had a Windows PC "die" on the software side, so I put Linux on it. I kept getting notices "something is wrong with your windows" on pages like that...yeah....sure....

  8. Downloading from popups like that is the best way to download viruses, worms, bugs, or whatever you want to call them. The best rule is to NEVER even click on those popups. I can't tell you how many times my IT (retired) husband has gotten calls from someone with a big problem from doing just that, thinking they had to do it. Trouble caused takes hours and hours and hours to fix. Take time to look up whatever the so-called problem is, like you did. You'll find that lots of people also are asking and most often will find out you don't want to do it. If you feel that you need to do something, go to the web site of the product, like yahoo.com or such and see if they really want you to do anything. Smart move to check it out!

  13. I know what you mean about not knowing what to trust. That up-date pop up is confusing - "Click to cancel" ? I would have had to contact my tech guy too. Good for you for figuring out the uninstall.

  14. I have a techie son so he told me to use Google Chrome instead of Firefox. I do, but sometimes I switch back to Firefox.

  15. Technology is moving ahead so rapidly. We old timers are having difficulty in keeping pace. But thankfully our sons/daughters/grand kids who are wizards with new gadgets & technological innovations are ever willing to assist us.

I really LOVE hearing from you! However, if you sign in as ANONYMOUS, please don't forget to tell me who you are in the comment box by just writing your first name. We would all appreciate it if you kept your comment respectful and kind.

I’m using Comment Moderation for any post that is more than a day old because of aggravating SPAM. Therefore, if your comment does not go up on an older (more than a day old) post, it's because I need to OK it first. I'm sorry to have to do this, but again... sigh... it's the spam that's driving me crazy.
