Cutting It Off Again

Every so often I'll want a bit of a change and will grow out my hair. Then I discover why I didn't like my hair long and will cut it off. It just gets in my way, will tickle my cheeks, fly in my eyes and seems to fall out faster. In the 12 years we’ve been back to Hawaii, I’ve gone to a professional just twice.

The first time was in 2013 at Macys where gorgeous Luciano cut off my hair after I’d grown it out for year. He was skeptical of my decision and asked me why I’d want such a huge change. Ah well. The result wasn’t exactly what I was envisioning, but I just combed it a different way and it was absolutely fine.

The second time I went to a hairdresser was to get a trim. After cutting my hair by myself for years, Art suggested I have my hair cut again by somebody else. I went to Supercuts. The stylist was very nice, but she cut my hair too short.

Well.... I’ve grown my hair out again, but AGAIN... it was driving me crazy.

I don't like taking care of my hair and at this length, it has a mind of its own.

Then I got a $3 off coupon from Supercuts so I thought I’d try once more. I called first and talked to Mindy who turned out to be the manager. I asked her if there was somebody who could cut my hair, but not too short. She said she would be happy to do it.

I really liked Mindy. She was very friendly and I watched how she carefully made every cut. AND best of all, I’m very pleased with the final product. It's just what I wanted!

I wonder what my friends at Zumba and Tai Chi will say. Maybe they won’t notice?

  1. That's very short, indeed. I think I like the first cut best. It had a certain flair.

  2. Of course they'll notice. It does look nice. I go every 6 weeks to have mine cut by Laura who has cut my hair since the 90s. She's been in several hair salons in that time but I just follow her as her other customers do.

  3. It looks like you! Very nice.
I go through the same process, except I never attempt to cut my own hair. Right now I am in the letting it grow phase. We'll see how long that might last.

  4. They will notice. I like it but it's just a wee bit too short for my taste (on you, of course; mine is that short). But I guarantee it will grow out! :-)

  6. I had wondered why you were growing your hair long. Especially living in Hawaii, with heat and moisture, I would think a short cut would be more suitable. I have very fine, straight hair, so if I grow it long, it just hangs and makes me look old. I am having trouble finding hairdressers who know HOW to cut hair short since it seems so many women now have long hair, even older women.

  7. You have a fresh and youthful face and are lucky that you can really wear your hair anyway!!

  8. Wow, that guy is gorgeous. I like short hair for many of the reasons you do. Like that haircut and it looks cute on you. Now you are ready for summer.

  13. Looks lovely. For some reason, I never really notice when others get a major new hair-do. I think I look at eyes and faces more when chatting with folks. Linda in Kansas

  14. I think you look much cuter with the shorter hair...And I am someone that has short hair because I don't want to spend lots of time taking care of it!

  15. I hate when my grows too long. I don't know how women tolerate it

  16. It looks nice! I go to a hairdresser about every 2 months. I was growing it out so I could just pull it back but it make me look 20 years older - and I don't need that.

  18. I go to whatever no-reservations salon happens to be convenient when I decide I need a haircut. Sometimes they do a good job. Other times not so good. But my hair grows fast.

  19. I like your new cut. I like my hair short too. I have mine cut every five weeks, by the same person, and make the next appointment before I leave the shop.

  21. I can understand this! I have done the same thing. I had a big cut early in winter. I loathe it in my eyes!!!

  22. I always liked your haircut. Just want to mention . . . it seems that I can comment okay from my old computer, but not from my new one. Hope I can figure it out . . . someday (sigh).

  23. Aww, you look great in any hairstyle, Kay!! The best one was the first one, though. Since hair is the only thing you can experiment with without regrets, I too go on cutting spree very often. I am sure your friends would notice your new style. Keep blogging dear!!
