I had other posts scheduled to go up this week, but with COVID-19 in Hawaii and self-isolated at home the topic is certainly at the top of my mind.
Tai-chi has been cancelled for the rest of the month. No Zumba for the next two weeks. So well... here I am, on my computer.
Art saw something in the paper which surprised me. Most Republicans still approve of how the president has handled this pandemic.
Wow...
What startled me was the number of Republicans still going out and not avoiding gatherings compared to Democrats. Then again I do have a few family members and friends who are Republicans and they ARE being very careful to self isolate as well so perhaps this was just the poll as of the 13th.
Things have changed dramatically and it appears that the president is now taking it more seriously. Finally.

Although he is doing better now, Trump's handling of this has been atrocious.
ReplyDeleteThe President's original denial of the Covid virus being a serious threat will cost so many people their lives. Many of his supporters have not yet caught up to his most recent version of the facts and are still going out and taking risks. I wouldn't care one bit if they got themselves sick,but a lot of us will be seriously threatened by their contagion, even if we are trying hard to follow all of the safety measures. It just takes one accidental touch of the face with a contaminated hand and we could die. I am glad the President seems to have finally come out of his stupor and is admitting we have a major problem. I hope his supporters will get on the same page soon.
ReplyDeleteKay, good for you for telling it like it is. Well, Fox News certainly didn't help with all of their attempts to minimize this for their so-called glorious leader. But why? It makes no sense.

ReplyDeleteI would like to see a similar breakdown of those in line at store checkouts with their baskets filled with a three years' supply of toilet paper -- or eggs, which have been in short supply here for some strange reason. (What is the point of hoarding things that spoil?)
ReplyDeleteI saw Trump saying we are in a pandemic and he knew it was a pandemic before anyone else and the people standing behind him did not even scream in protest. I believe that he thoroughly believes in his own omniscience but why can't normal people see it for the bulls%*t/mental illness that it is?
Not that I have a strong opinion, or anything.
Just listened to Don Lemon of CNN talking about Trump's gaslighting. Claiming he knew all along it was a pandemic. Lemon included all the quotes of Trump's speeches calling it a hoax for one. What an idiot! Heard Biden last night and he was compassionate and encouraging and thankful to all in the front lines of this. Much more presidential than Trump has ever been. One final thing: Michael Gerson in the Post yesterday said that republicans should have convicted Trump of abuse of power because we would at least have someone serving now, Pence, who had some governing experience.
ReplyDeletePut me down as a ditto for Olga. Everything that man says is a lie and/or a self aggrandizement. I can't listen to or watch him anymore. We have a very with it governor in Jay Inslee who, along with other officials and SCIENTISTS and DOCTORS, is guiding us in this state. Trump is now using the pandemic just to have daily news conferences, since his rallies are cancelled. He need to shut the F up.
ReplyDeleteIt has been so hard to watch his responses while ignoring the medical professionals and scientists. He appears to be catching up a bit but is it all too late? Time will tell.
ReplyDeleteI'm SO glad the experts kept talking after Trump wanted to muzzle them and direct all info through Pence. The scientists, docs, folks at CDC and NIH will help us the most.
ReplyDeleteAfter I read several comments on Biden winning recent primaries, one reporter talked about the numbers of Republicans turning out to vote in huge numbers for DJT, more than in previous elections. Most Trump supporters will remain loyal, because they can't be talked into seeing what's happening and change their mind.
A very serious reason that Democrats must simply ALL vote in November, otherwise we're in this deepening mess for longer.
Our Kansas City Hawaii Civic Club cancelled our meeting and met via "email." So many members are over 60 and over 80 years old, coming from all different parts of our metro.
Read on Hawaii News Now, that Hawaii is basically closed: tourist sites, restaurants, and not preferring visitors for 30 days. So horridly sad.
But I'm remembering Hawaiian history, when Captain Cook and his gang, and then the missionaries, brought so many diseases to the Islands, wiping out a huge portion of the native population, due to their lack of resistance from being in the middle of the Pacific. Told my Civic Club buddies: What did / would the Queen do to protect her people?
I hope financial relief can be given for all the tourist industry workers. Hawaii is such a beautiful place to visit, but mostly because of their beautiful people and aloha.
So, Kansas was the first state in the country to officially cancel all K-12 for the rest of the semester. We've got a wonderful, tough female Democratic governor taking care of us.
I went to Sam's, WalMart, and two local grocery stores: most shelves stripped of food, and sanitizing supplies. I got the last box of corn meal, and the last bag of pinto beans. SPAM was down to two types and only 2 cans. I feel like I time-traveled to the 1929 depression or WWII rationing. A spooky, uneasy feeling.

I am only able to walk and/or hike by myself or with a very small group these days. Our walking group is canceled for the rest of the month and who knows how much longer? I am really scared when I watch the news, so I'm finding some uplifting books to read. I am with Olga and Linda about the guy in the White House. :-(

ReplyDeleteI can’t even comment on Trump. I just hope enough of us are honoring the state directives well enough to “flatten the curve” and give hospitals time to get the additional respirators that are going to be needed.
