Losing My Kindle!

I'm one of those people who have to read to go to sleep. Otherwise, my brain starts running in circles thinking about this or that or even this and that. I turn the backlight on my Kindle Paperwhite down low so my brain doesn't get excited and after about a half hour or hour, I get calm enough to go to sleep.

Well, the other night... I couldn't find my Paperwhite! I remembered taking it into my office to maybe read in the afternoon, but it wasn't there. Art got up and tried to help me. We even looked under the bed, the bathroom, bookshelves... everywhere.

He finally loaned me his Paperwhite. He doesn't need ANYTHING to fall asleep. Believe me. Unfortunately, he doesn't have my books on his Paperwhite. Ah well... I just read something else and did fall asleep eventually.

This morning we started the hunt all over again after breakfast. We even looked downstairs in the kitchen, the bathrooms, closets, under all the beds again, under tables, arrrrghhhhh....

And then...

As I was searching in my desk drawers where I knew I didn't put it, I heard an, "Uh hunh."

Art was standing next to the dresser with a smirk on his face, holding back his laughter. It was in the drawer where I keep COVID-19 supplies. I looked in and remembered checking a mask I'd made recently for Art.

I guess I must have been holding the Paperwhite and put it down to check the mask.

Oh daaaang it!

Talk about being absent minded. Can I blame this on COVID-19 too?

  1. You took it all in stride with very good humour by the looks of it. This is something that I would do.

  2. Thanks for the smile, Kay--yours up there -and- mine! :) :)

  3. But the good news is - it was found...I was going to say "you found it", but of course, Art did...I also need to read something to fall asleep and my Kindle is the one easiest to prop up on a pillow, against another pillow. And I can use the most comfortable size font.

  4. my husband is so adept at finding anything lost for me...in the frig, in the house and in the car. Of course he rarely loses anything...lol! I can't sleep at night either but end up in the recliner in the living room as hubby couldn't sleep if I read in bed.

  5. And it's not as if you can call it!

  6. All our electronic objects like computers, kindles and even TV emit a blue light that destroys the melatonin our bodies make. So I read a paper book if I am going to read at bedtime.

  7. We spend about 40% of our non-sleeping hours looking for things around the house; 40% trying to recall a character or incident in a book or movie; and 20% of our time cooking and eating. We lead very busy lives!

  8. Understand your panic of possibly losing your Kindle. In case of fire, I will have a pet under each arm and my Kindle in my hand. Don't despair. I contribute any lapses to Covid Brain. Think it is a real medical condition or at least I am using it.

  9. I like Patti's excuse. It's better than mine. I finally found my way into Wordpress. Can you copy and paste into it's template? I hate to tell you that they too are changing their basic template. I can't figure out how to get photos on.

    1. I used to have Wordpress as a private back-up for Blogspot, but got lazy and stopped. Then I tried to export my Blogspot to Import to Wordpress, but it just won't work. NOW... I find I can't comment on Wordpress blogs unless I comment using my Wordpress account. Siiiiighhhh...

  10. I agree with Patty, Covid-brain should be listed as a condition. I lost my cell phone and when I dialed it with my landline I could just barely hear it but couldn't locate it. After a day I discovered it when I picked up my folded winter quilt to put away. I had somehow rolled my cell phone up in the quilt. I will never figure out how that happened.

  11. I blame it on menehunes. They sure know how to make things disappear and then reappear when you don't expect it.

  12. I love the photo! Says it all.

  13. Lol! I can totally relate! This is me all day every day! I've just decided to live with it… Ha!

  14. Well jeepers, Kay, you are JUST NOW starting to act a little older. Nope not a COVID problem; it's a "getter older" problem. But you're in Hawaii, so I like Honolulu Aunty's explanation: the lovely menehunes.
I like a small town old-fashioned Gazette newspaper to read before sleep. I can drop it anywhere and not break it, and step on it in the morning.
The other oldish behavior is to walk to a room, forget why you went to that room, and the only way you'll remember is to go back to the room you started in. Happens more often to me these days. Single-tasking instead of multi-tasking is less complicated.

  15. Losses like that are extremely frustrating. They are simple and that's what makes it so annoying.

  16. Oh, Kay. We laugh at this kind of thing all the time@

  17. The other day I went to the doctor's office and when I left, I couldn't find my car keys. Looked all over and then found them sticking out of the lock, just where I'd left them while putting on my face mask. Yes, age happens to us all, if we're lucky. :-)

  18. That's exactly how I lose everything. Everything!

  19. Why not blame it on COVID-19? I like Patti's "COVID brain" and I am sure it will show up in the med boooks soond enough.

  20. You can blame it on COVID or anything else you like. I have been losing things lately too. I'm sure I am going wacky.
BYW, I read my Kindle every night before falling asleep too. Too often when I can't keep my eyes open any longer, I settle in to sleep, and then sleep alludes me. I hate that.

  21. I've been doing a lot of thinking this year and it's killing my sleep. I started to turn the tv on with a timer to keep the mind distracted.

  22. Glad it turned up. Give yourself the benefit of the doubt. We are all under unique stress at this time. You're doing great, K

  23. Glad you found it, eventually. I hate misplacing things too, don't say they are lost as they are just in a safe place :)
