Organic Weed/Grass Killer

Art has been bothered by grass poking through the sidewalk but didn't want to use Roundup weedkiller. I told him I'd heard that putting vinegar on the grass would do the job. Ummm... He tried it and it really didn't do the job.

He looked online for an organic formula to do the job and found something he thought he'd try. After all, that organic borax/sugar ant killer certainly worked.

And this is what he found.

1/2 gallon white vinegar
1/2 cup salt
1/2 Tablespoon liquid dish washer

Although he did need two applications, it appears to have sort of worked.

We'll see if it grows back in the coming days.

  1. As Laurie said, you'll have to treat the area regularly to keep the weeds from re-sprouting, but that will give Art something to do :-)

  4. Good to know! I have used Roundup and hate doing that. I was thinking of using a torch to burn the ones that are in a crack but I'll try this first. Mahalo!

  6. Anything that keeps Roundup far, far away is good in my book. Looks to me like it works. :-)

  8. We used the same, except epsom salt, not table salt, which really isn't salt. (Art will understand.)

  9. Sounds like this wouldn't be healthy for anything.

  10. We shall see. I expect that it will have to be attended to regularly.

  11. Well done. I usually just chuck some salt on ours, prior to a rain. Mind you, we've not had significant rain in a bit!
