Valentines Day 2021 was not a banner day for romance. It started with leaks that Art finally took seriously. There were leaks in the kitchen AND bathroom. Art had been ignoring them for several weeks, but on Valentines Day it finally became imperative that we do something.
"Let me get a plumber's name," I said.
"Wait. I'll look at it first," he said.
You'll note that he is wearing red just to let people know he knows what day it is.
He turned off the water and replaced the washer for the kitchen hot water faucet which he determined was the culprit. The dripping continued. He then went to the hardware stores to buy water turn off valves, washers and something called a stem cartridge. He tried to unscrew this and that and in all that mayhem gouged out the base of his thumb...
OK... It wasn't a lovey dovey day for sure, but at the end of the day, it sure felt good.
And yes, he did cut a leaf off the aloe plant and apply it to his wound and yes, it healed nicely.
It may not be flowers & chocolates, but if I was a woman I'd say Art under the sink in that red shirt was a pretty romantic sight! Art's my hero, he can do it all :^)

ReplyDeleteI never doubt it when Art says he can fix it. That under the sink work is brutal on the back as well as arms. Looked like a pretty neat Valentine's day to me and you certainly saved a bundle.

ReplyDeleteWhenever I tackle a leak, my first purchase is a shutoff valve for that area of the house. I don't understand what plumbers thought only putting one shutoff valve for an entire house. Just removing the pressure of working on a leak and not having somebody who is thirsty or needs to use the bathroom makes me more inclined to tackle leaks.
ReplyDeletehow funny, I'm married to a fixit man also and it saves money but sometimes I have to laugh when he installed the new kitchen faucet with the hot and cold water reversed but it works!

ReplyDeleteA guy doing any kind of plumbing work is enough romance for me! My late husband enjoyed doing carpentry and electrical but HATED plumbing. There was always an added issue or two and nothing ever fit back quite right. Good for Art!!

ReplyDeleteArt and I went to the same plumbing school. I sometimes try a few solutions first that don't work. I usually don't injure myself but I do a lot of swearing.

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet guy. His owies look painful. Arnica gel is what Cloudia recommended for aches and bruises. Since I like warm water to wash my face, I'm not sure about his method to fix that sink's leak, but Hawaiian sunshine works too! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI had to chuckle when the "easy fix" turned into an all day job. That happens a lot in DYI projects. Art is very dedicated to home repair. He really puts some skin in it.
