Yes. It is a relief.
My 2nd shot came earlier this week and was a tad bit more uncomfortable.
I had a 7:00 AM appointment, but I guess they must have been doing a block at a time. Therefore, that 7:00 appointment was probably 50 people. Felt like it anyway, but we were all happy to be there.
After standing in the rain for a while, they figured out a way to bring us into a sheltered hallway.
We went through several stations to get checked off, screened and then sit down for our shots.
Amazingly, once again (just like my first shot) they ran out of injections so I had to wait for a fresh batch. It just took about 10 minutes. It was nice to think I got another fresh vaccine.
Unlike my first shot where the nurse injected me slowly, this fellow was so quick that Art barely got a photo taken before it was already over.
We then went to Tripler's lab to get our fasting blood tests done. (Art laughed and said, “In one arm, out the other.”)🙄
Our doctor will be happy that we're finally coming in.
Once that was done we went to the commissary to do some grocery shopping, but had to grab some breakfast. But where?
We laughed to realize that the first indoor dining we would do since a year ago would be a McDonald's breakfast at the food court.
Tables were spaced far apart and there were very few people there.
Perfect.
What a lovely feeling!
Do you have a place picked out to do your indoor dining after you get your 2nd shot? (And before you scold me, I know I'm not safe for 2 weeks.)
I live in a rural county, so when we got our vaccine, it was very smooth, quick, and easy. We walked in, let them sign us in (no waiting), and immediately received our shot. After waiting 15 minutes, we went home. But we are in a rural county, which has made a big difference all through the pandemic. Less people, less germs to catch.
ReplyDeleteOur plans for two weeks after 2nd shot are to go to Buffalo. Indoor dining will be fast food on the trip there.

ReplyDeleteOnce I know it is block appointments, I always come in towards the tail to avoid the rush but the problem is I rarely know that information ahead of time until I have learned it from experience.
ReplyDeleteWe have been eating out occasionally this entire pandemic, well at least after the first few months of it anyway. We have generally always gone to places with well spaced out seating and during off times like 3 in the afternoon when few people are there. But we do have several small places in mind where social distancing is impossible and they are usually crowded and only take reservations when all this is over. For now, I will probably still wear my mask while waiting for the food and afterwards while waiting for the bill.
Next Friday is my second shot and I will go to our local cafe after. I will order a shotgun burger with onion rings!!! Yes, I will still mask, space and sanitize.
ReplyDeleteI am also looking forward to meeting friends at McDs for coffee when the time comes, which still will be quite a long way off. It was just a year ago that we had our last kaffeeklatsch.
ReplyDeleteYou're certainly safer than you were a month ago. I feel that even with the first vaccine we are safer than we were before. I'm still waiting for the case numbers to decrease so we are in the orange tier before I do anything crazy, though, like eating indoors.
ReplyDeleteI had reactions mild the second day after my second shot but feel relief to be protected. My son and dg-in-law just returned from Oahu for spring break-they said it rained everyday but was beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Not ready to eat out yet - just take out. But we are finally having a birthday party for my eldest grandgirl. All us grandparents, elder aunts and uncles and her parents are now vaccinated. Slowly we go.
ReplyDeleteI'm eating outdoors today for my boyfriend's birthday. He's fully vaccinated, but I've only had one shot. I'm not terribly nervous about it since it's not in the restaurant. I think I'll still be hesitant about eating inside--probably until summer. Glad you got your shot! I'm Pfizer too whereas everyone else I know has gotten Moderna.

ReplyDeleteSo glad you are finally almost there. Isn't it a wonderful feeling? I got my second this morning and in two weeks, eating out will not be my first treat. A haircut is a for sure. Can't wait.

ReplyDeleteIt'll be awhile before I'm vaccinated. I'm in the least priority group, so I don't expect anything before summer. Even after then, I doubt I'll be doing any restaurant in-house dining for awhile.

Seems that you've taught your bloggers well, as they mostly seem to know to wait until 2 weeks after their last shot to go hug somebody with the same vaccination history. Spread the word. I've always remembered the numbers of Hawaiians lost due to diseases after Captain Cook arrived. We've got to keep all of you healthy and safe, so we can safely come visit the Islands again! ReplyDeleteYes, Art is retired military/Public Health Service. I am a dependent. However, my friends and relatives 65+ are now registered to get their shots at Pier 2. Such a relief! I just checked and Kaiser is also giving shots to 65+.

ReplyDeleteWe got our second vaccine on 2/23' i felt like i had the flu but my husband had such an extreme reaction he ended up in the hospital. Vindication for the anti vaccine people we are surrounded with.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's a surprise! I know so many people who got the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines on Oahu and the mainland. None of them experienced more than a sore arm or lethargy on the 2nd day. My 30+ year old nurse nephew did experience some flu like symptoms for a day, but nothing severe. I guess it's inevitable that there will be some who will experience worse reactions which is why they monitor you for 15-30 minutes. I certainly hope it doesn't give anti-vaxxers ammunition.

DeleteI get my second Pfizer shot on March 23. I expect to have some sort of reaction but so many of my friends have had little to no discomfort, even after the second shot. Congratulations to both of you for being properly vaccinated. :-)

Glad you got your vaccination but sorry you had to go through the weather and waiting. I get my 2nd Pfizer later today so guess I better get to bed and be rested for the event.
