Whenever we take mom to get her fasting blood test done at Kaiser, we take her out to a restaurant for breakfast. It's sort of a celebration for getting it done.
(Side note: When we were leaving the Kaiser lab, mom was doing her usual fast walk out of the hospital because she didn't want to keep Art waiting. With my ankle still quite tender, I was hobbling behind her. I noticed some people looking up at us and I wondered if they were secretly chuckling that this little ol' lady was walking a lot more briskly than her supposed caretaker.)
We have not gone to an actual dine-in restaurant in a year, but since we're all fully vaccinated, decided to give it a try.
Mom loves Zippy's wun tun min. We'd asked her if she wanted a regular breakfast or wun tun min and she laughed. It had been a year and there was really no question what she preferred.
Although we were nervous about going into an actual restaurant, we saw that they had put a number of safety measures in place. Art had to list all his contact tracing information. There was a temperature check and hand sanitizing station.

Glad you got to get out for a nice Meal for Dine-In. The Man and I have actually been doing that a while, even before fully vaccinated, by scoping out which Post-Pandemic Restaurants that still offered Dine-In had virtually NO Diners present during our time slot visits. It has worked out so well for us, we usually had the places to ourselves, until recently, when now it seems people are getting bolder about their risk-assessing and some places now are too crowded and we wouldn't feel safe there. It is a new World we'll have to find an adaptation to... I'm more comfortable about it than in the beginning, when I wouldn't leave the house except on necessity Death Runs as I called them.
ReplyDeleteThis restaurant looks cool with all the Covid-19 safety protocols, yummy foods, and a nice server.
ReplyDeleteyou two take such great care of your mom. we all should be so lucky! it's wonderful to see the precautions that restaurant is taking.
ReplyDeleteIt will seem odd to get back to a more normal lifestyle. It may never feel the same.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see that precautions are taken so seriously. We are not out of the woods yet, but even slow steps are so welcome. Your mom sure does look happy with her outing!
ReplyDeleteWe've eaten out a handful of times over the last year but only at restaurants like this one that take proper precautions.
ReplyDeleteThe food looks great (I always like the food pics first!) but that's great you guys finally felt comfortable eating out Kay... but my gosh, if it had been just me I'm not sure I'd want to go thru all the hassle! )Contact tracing info too??) Anyway, your mom's big smile sure made it look worthwhile!
ReplyDeletehow fun, i'm off to eye doctor this morning for checkup on my left eye which has glaucoma now. Always something to deal with as we all age...
ReplyDeleteGetting back to a new normal gradually.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! Those are really tall plexiglass panels. Glad you got out for an adventure. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteLive eating out. So glad Momgot to eat out.
ReplyDeleteLove
ReplyDeleteYour Mom's smile says it all. Was impressed with all the safety precautions. So glad they are being so careful. We still have a way to go yet. Smiled at the image of your Mom striding out of the lab and you limping behind her. So glad to know that is just a temporary situation. Be well soon Kay.
ReplyDeleteHave not done eat in since summer when it was in a tent outside and that gave us pause as to the safety of it. Looking forward to doing it soon too.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to be able to get out and do something normal! (with the added safety precautions) The food looks excellent and your beautiful mom is beaming!!
ReplyDeleteIt is a rare soul who can find ways to have fun in the midst of a pandemic! You're wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOK, what is wun tun min? Please. It looks like soup to me. What a lovely gift to give your mom.
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late with this. I've been caught up making masks for a Micronesian community.
DeleteWun tun min is a Hawaiian/Chinese type dish. It's a noodle soup (sort of like ramen) with char siu, kamaboko, veggies and pork dumplings.
Seems like a lot of trouble just to go to a restaurant . . . but that's what we have to do these days and I bet it was worth it!
ReplyDeleteSo cute, your mom and your outing! Glad you had such a nice day!
ReplyDeleteI ate out at a restaurant on Saturday, too. A dine-in and boy do I feel different now that I'm vaccinated! Looks like a great outing. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour Mom's smile says it all. It's great to have that smile when you are elderly.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that after a year's absence the waitress still knew your drink orders.
ReplyDeleteYay for eating in. It does seem normality is returning.
ReplyDeleteThe First dining in after such a long time it’s a big deal. It sounds like your restaurant Has taken lots of good precautions. I’m glad you all had fun, especially your mother.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! We are still just bringing food in, as we've had an utick in COVID cases.
ReplyDeleteYour Mom looks s0 happy. I dined out with my sister when she came to visit. We're both vaxxed. Delicious Indian food. We ordered too much and made a breakfast and a dinner out of the leftovers. That being said it's will probably be awhile before we go again.
ReplyDeleteI've only been doing take out at restaurants since all of this started. My last time sitting in a restaurant was Pancake Tuesday, 2020.
