Yup. 😖 It happened AGAIN!
The last time I fell in 2018, I was going up the stairs. People can't understand how I could fall going up the stairs, but alas... I'm talented that way. I was holding my cellphone in one hand and I forget what in the other so I suppose I wasn't able to brace myself and fell on my shoulder instead. I guess. And I broke my humerus.
In 2005 I twisted my ankle while hiking on New Zealand's Bealy Spur Trail and therefore couldn't do the Franz Josef glacier climb with Art two days later.
I've also been on crutches after another twisted ankle on the Aiea Loop Trail. I forget what year that was.
Sheesh!
It's getting a little annoying.
I've come to the realization that I must have weak ankles... very weak ankles.
Well, this time we had just returned home from going to Costco. I was holding a rotisserie chicken in a box when I missed stepping on the concrete walkway and fell hard on my hip and side which were fine. I was stunned, but the chicken was unharmed.
My Apple Watch immediately began buzzing as I checked to see if the chicken was doing OK.
A message appeared asking if I'd fallen hard.
I remember clicking on "I fell, but I'm OK."
My hand hurt a little, and my big toe too, but I appeared to have come out of it relatively unscathed.
Of course not.

I'm sorry you took such a fall. I hope you will feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI wrecked my ankle many many years ago, and I am using a cane sometimes these days. Oddly, I didn't fall when I did it.
ReplyDeletebut you saved that chicken kay! if it was a football game, though you got banged up you held onto the ball...standing applause here!!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad it was not your hip breaking or any bones for that matter. It was a wonder the chicken didn't go everywhere. Take care and watch your step!
ReplyDeleteOh Kay! I'm so sorry this happened, but glad it wasn't your hip! My gosh, you've had your share of injuries haven't you? I hope you're planning on taking things easy for awhile. By the way, you're nor alone "falling UP the stairs", I did that too in 2013 and cracked a rib! I sure hope you get better real soon, at least you've got Art to wait on you :^)
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, or maybe not, that the first thing I thought of was the chicken.:-)
ReplyDeleteBut I'm glad you are OK, if somewhat worse for wear.
I think about you often, falling UP the stairs, and take heed. I am very careful going up or down stairs these days.
I hope you also heal fast! By the way, I got all four of your comments on old blog posts. Any post older than 5 days have the settings such that I must approve them before they show up. This limits the number of spam posts I get on old blog posts since I can delete them from the email notification instead of having to search for the old post. All four of your comments are not showing up on those old posts.
ReplyDeleteGlad nothing broken Kay.
ReplyDeletehubby and I were walking into a store holding hands and the clerk said oh that's so sweet that it brought tears to my eyes. I laughed silently and didn't tell her that hubby always holds my hand when we are walking together anywhere so if I stumble I won't fall. lol! I trip easily over raised concrete sidewalks and step down-for stairs I always hold on to the railing. Falling is not fun at any age...
ReplyDeleteOh goodness Kay! Glad you're relatively ok. I didn't know the watches did that oversight. Wonder if such a watch could show a regular dial with military time markings too. (Ya know, nursing documentation requires such.) Not sure how your chicken was traveling, but anytime I've purchased something that could require carrying it like a waitress, I have the cashier put it in a carry sack. That way I can just carry it by the sack's handles. I find myself taking extra trips to the car to bring things in, just to avoid carrying too much at one time.
ReplyDeletePlease be careful! You're a member of an honored club: President Biden fell UP those plane ramp stairs. I'd noticed the steps from the copter he just left were shorter heights than the copter ramp he tripped up. Those steps were each taller.
May want to grab an xray of your ankle, just in case it needs a brace after the swelling goes down.
Gotta ask....how was the chicken dinner?
Linda in flat Kansas
Bless your heart. I am getting there as well.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you fell, Kay! I hope you will be alright!
ReplyDeleteNot one, but two bites. I am so sorry about the latest fall. I used to fall going up all the time.
ReplyDeleteOuch, that ankle looks painful. So glad you didn't break anything but a sprain can be much more painful.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing watch. I need to check into one of those. I too can fall going up--nose plant was my last venture.
Guess that makes us eligible to be president since Joe did something similar recently.
Those are some of the fun times of getting old! Did I say that about you? Surely your not old! I hope you recover rapidly.
ReplyDeleteFalling is terrifying these days. I slipped and twisted my ankle in Maui in November 2019. I didn't fall but realized the danger of flip flops too late. It is so painful to try to walk on a sprained ankle. It sounds like you took immediate action; I hope that helps you heal fast!
ReplyDeleteYour body needs your jazzercise routine to keep your balance and strength. Ever since I found your pal Jan (http://djanstewart.blogspot.com/2020/05/front-porch-flowers-2020.html) I do the Five Tibetan Rites every morning. I feel so much stronger! I kind of gave up on TaiChi since I keep forgetting the steps but these rites are just right for me.
ReplyDeleteWow, I am so glad to hear you are doing the Five Tibetans. It's been almost a decade since I started and have never missed a day!
DeleteHope you heal swiftly. My family has a trait of loose ankle tendons and falling. Some but not all have gotten some elief from wearing good old converse high-tops. Just a thought. My very active 14 year old grandgirl is getting her first pair this week.
ReplyDeleteOh my, Kay. Ouch, ouch, ouch. At least the chicken was saved!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Honolulu Aunty in that you need to take care of your body.
I cannot tell you how many falls I have taken by now. You must definitely have weak ankles. I twist mine occasionally but they recover quickly. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you didn’t break anything.
ReplyDeleteHealing wishes coming your way.
All the best Jan
Oh, Kay, best wishes for a speedy recovery from this event.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're basically okay. Now . . . pay attention!
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing!
ReplyDeleteOur neighbour, whose family has a sugar shack, broke her ankle. Sugar season is their intense time. I feel so badly for you both!
Ouch!
ReplyDeleteI had a fall in the winter- just bruises on one arm near the elbow. The only time I've broken bones was ribs. That was rough to deal with.
