Mom's Orchids

Mom loves her orchid plants. One of them that my brother transplanted for her earlier bloomed recently. With the sun streaming down on the flowers and looking so pretty I took some photos of it with my iPhone XR.

A week later, I showed those photos to mom and she asked, "Are those your friends' orchids? Where did you see them?"

And then it occurred to her and she laughed saying, "Oh, they're mine. They look even nicer on your phone."

When I told Art about it, he asked, "Would you like to see my photos?" Yes, it's true he got the upgraded iPhone 12 last year with the better camera. 🙄

I have reduced the file size of both photos before posting them here so perhaps it's affected the clarity, but yes... the photos with his upgraded phone is sharper.

Well... some day I will upgrade my phone and show him my photos too. Then again he'll probably say, it's not the phone, it's the photographer. 🙄🙄🙄

  1. I'm thinking of upgrading my iPhone to a 12 from a 7. You have convinced me! :-)

  2. I always greatly reduce my photos for Blogger. It's enough for a blog IMO.

  3. So beautiful, I had painted one of your orchid photos at one time.

  4. Both shots are great,in fact I like yours a bit better. Think I like the slightly softer version. Funny how she didn't recognize them as her own at first.

  5. Yes, it is sharper, but I like the depth in the top photo better.

  6. The camera in the 12 Pro is unbelievable. I am still a terrible photographer (no eye) but at least the pictures look better than they would have with my 7. That is a beautiful orchid!

  7. I need to upgrade my phone. Art's picture is clearer. One day, I'll start taking pictures again. My good pictures are truly a chance thing. But I will take credit.

  8. They're both beautiful! (Enlarge a print for Mom at Christmas?) I read an article that said not to upgrade to the new phones just for the camera. I can't see any difference, other than the leaves and petals "posed" a little differently in the two photos. Maybe choose Art's for any enlargement, which will magnify the focusing done. Her talent is wonderful. Linda in Kansas

  9. Have fun with the editing tools! You can sharpen them up or do anything you like! I'm shooting on a Google pixel 3 phone but have ordered the new Google 6 pro which is a new benchmark in mobile phone photography they say. Beautiful orchids. Beautiful mom. Have a beautiful day!

  10. I am very happy with the camera on my new 1Phone 12.
But more importantly, your mother's orchid is so beautiful, in both photos.

  11. Ha ha! In either case, the new phones are amazing as cameras. I used to carry around a digital camera and then have to download it with several steps, but now. it is SO easy and of such great quality!

btw, I have a small orchid for your mom. They are called pigeon or thunderstorm orchids. They are growing on the trunk of an old plumeria tree and I never watered them or took care of them for years. They act like barometers and when the temperature and/or air pressure drops, they bloom in sprays and only last for 1-2 days. I never knew why they would suddenly burst into fragrant flowers until I googled them, so now I take better care of them - which doesn't make a difference because they still survive no matter what.
