I saw something somewhere about a way to reduce one thing that might cause you a moment (or a lot) of anxiety as you start on a trip.
Take a photo of your stove or anything else you think you'll possibly forget to turn off before leaving your home.
Soooo…. I’m thinking, yes. Next time we go on a trip, I’m going to take a photo of the stove and the ceiling fans. I’m notorious for forgetting to turn off the ceiling fan when I leave the room for a length of time. Hmmm… What about windows? I would want to make sure I closed them all. If you lived on the mainland, you’d want to make sure you lowered the temperature on your thermostat in winter.
What photos would you take before leaving the house on a trip?
Art just said, "Wouldn't it be just as helpful to have a checklist instead?"

Something screwy is going on with Blogger. I haven't touched the setting, but comments are defaulting to Anonymous for many people. I tested it on my iPad and iPhone and it defaulted to Anonymous too. When I changed it to my Google account, it wouldn't allow my comment to post at all. On the other hand, it worked OK on my desktop computer and laptop. I don't know what's going on. Therefore, unfortunately.... until this is cleared up...when you comment under Anonymous would you just write your name in the comment box?
Not a bad idea. My wife has many a list but mostly for what to take. Once upon a time we called a neighbour to have him make sure that we closed our garage door.

DeleteMy solution has always been to do a walk through every room while everyone else waits for me in the car in the garage. I check to make sure everything is off, doors left open for air circulation and water is not running in sinks or toilets. I also turn the water valve to the house off and turn off the water heater and make sure to take out the compost bucket and trash so it doesn’t stink up the house.

ReplyDeleteDon't forget to check the washing machine water valve. Turn to off before leaving on vacation. I think you said that your washer was on a porch/lanai? No one would want a water bill from unchecked water gushing out of a burst hose; especially in areas where water is not plentiful.
ReplyDeleteI have to put a note on the washer to turn it on when returning , otherwise I have a small panic when I start a wash and it only makes a clicking sound and no water !!!.

DeleteShortly before your trip, schedule an appointment with your dentist. Remind them you have an anxiety disorder about dentists, and will they send a prescription for two alprazolam pills to your pharmacy. Collect the pills, cancel the dentist appointment and on the morning of your trip take one of those pills. You will soon be traveling in sweet bliss!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this will even publish. Suddenly I can't comment except on someone else's comment. I would definitely take a picture of my garage door down since I never remember if it came all the way to the ground and stayed. Sometimes it pops back up!

DeleteGood Grief Dug! Just tell your regular doc you have an anxiety disorder and get some pills from them. I think Kay's super sensitive to sedating pills. She might not get off at the destination stop! Linda in Kansas

Linda, I do not have an anxiety disorder! But my dentist, a young Southern woman says I am much too serious when I show up for an appointment so she always prescribes these pills and suggests I take one before I come in! I now have 8- 10 of them in my medicine cabinet and I think I'm going to go take one now 😉❤️

I mostly turn everything off as I leave the house, but I've never turned off the washing machine. (It has stainless steel fabric-patterned hoses.) I had my neighbor's key, as she frequently traveled and thought she'd left her iron on. Never did. Linda in Kansas
