What's Your Favorite Halloween Candy (Treat?)

I should have said treat because...well... what if you like being mindful of being healthy all year long. You might prefer apples.

My friend, Myra recently sent me a Consumer Reports article about the favorite Halloween treats that the CR staff preferred.

When I was in grade school I know my favorite candy was Hershey's milk chocolate bars.

I used my 10 cent allowance to buy 2 of them and there was no tax added at the candy truck that came by.

Ahhh... those were the days.

I didn't have to worry about my glucose levels then.

However, once I was in college my tastes changed. I think that's when it happened. I switched to loving Snickers.

When our kids were growing up we only bought Snickers for Halloween treats to give out to neighborhood children. We never bought candy corn. Yuck! (Oops! Sorry. That's just me.)

But now... My favorite candy is Kit Kat. I haven't had it in a long time, but it's what I switched to and what I passed out for Halloween when we had kids here (Hawaii) in the neighborhood.

And here's what the Consumer Reports staff reported as their favorite.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups? Really?

Art no longer eats candy, but he says his favorite as a child used to be Heath. Heath? Really?

What is/was your favorite candy?

POSTSCRIPT:

Good grief! I was talking to my classmate/childhood companion/friend, Diane about our favorite candy when we were growing up and she reminded me of LOOK! candy.

How could I forget? Yes! Yes! It's true!

The packaging has changed a lot but  it looks like the candy is almost the same. It was nougat with some bits of peanuts in it and coated with dark chocolate.

Diane is right. Even before the Hershey bar, Look! was my favorite. Sigh... Those were the days...

  1. Our taste buds must be similar. In my youth it was Snickers and then progressed to Hershey milk chocolate and these days I'll once in a blue moon eat a Kit Kat if given a chance. But I can count the number of candy bars I consume a year on one hand.

  2. Of your choices, I would prefer the Hershey’s bar although I do not know the Look bar. My very fave is Mars.

  3. I don't think I ever heard of Look. We have some kids in the neighborhood this year so I bought some KitKats to hand out -- because I won't eat them. For my own chocolate fix -- a Dove miniature will do the trick. Don likes the Hershey milk chocolate minis but I notice he eats several in a sitting.

  4. Ooh, I had forgotten about Heath bars. They were once a favorite. Today Peppermint Patties are on my last meal menu.

  6. Heath bars! Forgot about them. Where can I get them? Oh no. A new food obsession to occupy my mind for a few days. (My favorite treat is actually mangos or raspberries or honeydew melon. Or wait! University of Maryland ice cream. That's the one.)

  7. I never liked Look. I am a Kit Kat, Almond Joy, Mounds, Butterfinger lover. Not crazy about peanut butter cups and dislike Twix which I find tasteless.

  8. Milky Way! You can put them in the fridge or freezer, then slice them up. My neighborhood QuikTrip is sold out of them half the time. Reece's peanut butter cups next, then plain Hershey's chocolate bars. I have noticed how they're thinner now. A candy truck came through the neighborhood? We had ice cream trucks. Seems either would need to stay cold inside to protect the candy or popsicles. Watch out for the NightWalkers! Linda in Kansas, home of the Good Witch, the Bad Witch and Flying Monkeys!

  9. Almond Joys! Nothing else is worth the calories! Happy Halloween.

  10. Good News is my favorite, followed by $100,000.

  11. Cherry Blossom was my favorite but all other chocolates were a very close second. 10 cent allowance? Chocolates a 5 cents. Not in my day!

  12. Before I grew up and became a dark chocolate fan, it was always Snickers! (and I still like them). But probably the second best in our house is Reese's Peanut Butter cups, then Peppermint Patties. I'm not familiar with Look...

  14. Twix for me. Skittles a close second.

  15. We didn't have much candy as children, but I think my favorite might have been Snickers. I also liked Almond Joy and Hershey's with almond. Well, anything with chocolate and nuts!

  16. I been a lifelong fan of Mounds Bars, occasionally tempted by the almonds in Almond joy but not often. Always bought Snickers for the kid's Halloween because I won't eat them. They're OK just not my thing which is OK since it keeps me from gobbling Halloween candy and I would otherwise. :-)

  17. I have always enjoyed dark chocolate in any form. Hershey's Kisses were a favorite, too.

  18. I honestly can't remember the last time I bought any candy, but I loved Fifth Avenue & peanut M&Ms! By the way, I will never forget going into the local 5 and 10 one day after school, I was 9-10 years old and it was 1970, and there was a sign above the candy bars that said "Sorry kids! Candy bars are now 15 cents!". I thought my life was over!

  19. I used to enjoy kit-kats.

    All the best Jan
