It was now Sunday, April 16th and still no luggage. Art had informed the San Francisco United Luggage Claim that his suitcase was still at Frankfurt. They told him he shouldn't worry because he could buy new things up to $2,000 that United would cover. 🙄 Hmmm... Really? I wonder.
However....
There was that lovely included breakfast that raised our spirits. It gave us all the calories we needed to make up for the night before.
We caught the short shuttle ride at 8:45 AM to the airport where we met our travel buddies.
And then the travel agony began again.
There were... yup... again... mechanical difficulties with the United plane. It was something to do with the plane's anti-lock braking system.
Our 11:10 flight was delayed... a lot.
Sigh...
It's a good thing we had a huge breakfast.
Eventually, they gave up trying to fix that plane and moved us to another gate.
But no... that plane was not good either so they moved us to yet another gate and another plane.
We eventually left at 4:41 PM San Francisco time and arrived at 6:32 PM Hawaii Time. It was a 5 hour flight. Art had watched them load my luggage on the plane before we took off.
We were supposed to arrive at 1:49 PM Hawaii Time originally.
On the plus side, many people had left that original flight so we had our row to ourselves. 😄 We kept our masks on anyway.
Once in Hawaii, Art went to the United Luggage Claim. He showed them that the Apple AirTag proved his luggage was STILL in Frankfurt.

But it's OK, my brother cheerfully picked us up at the curb and brought us home.
When we were at the San Francisco Airport, we passed by this display and a smiling fellow asked if we would like him to take our photo. We took his photo too.

That kind of thing is exactly why I do not like to travel. When I went on the cruise right after Scott and Ginger were married, they lost my luggage too. They brought it to me at 11:30PM after promising a 6:00PM delivery. Then one time I went to visit my granddaughter in Georgia and nearly missed my flight after they changed a gate three times. I heard the first two changes but was reading a book and missed the third one. Me and one other passenger had to go down on the tarmac and climb the steps to get into the plane. That was it for me plus two incidents of extreme turbulence was enough travel for me. And this is Margie from Margie's Musings...not Anonymous
ReplyDeleteKay of Musings: That happened to someone on our cruise too. She told us that the airline lost their luggage but found it. However, the ship had sailed from port so the luggage had to follow and was taking time. She and her husband had to buy some clothes and last I heard she was just hoping the luggage would be at the next stop. I really felt for her. This is why we decided to fly to London 3 days ahead of the cruise.
DeleteI've flown a lot and have never had my luggage lost in all these decades. It has not arrived with me a number of times when I have reached my destination but usually a couple days later, it has always arrived. I always consider myself fortunate when luggage delays happen on my way home. It really stinks when it happens on the outbound journey. I once had to shop for a wardrobe in Manila where the average person is over a foot shorter and a 100 pounds lighter. I was really excited when my luggage arrive a couple days later after wearing skin tight, way too short clothing for a couple days!

ReplyDeleteI guess Japan! A couple friends just returned from there. I've flown a lot too but mostly non-stops where it would be more difficult to lose my luggage. Or I take only a carry on like I did to Scotland and to Senegal.

We’re planning that trip too next year March-April. But you’ve made quite a few trips to Japan, so must have already seen their cherry blossoms.

We’ve seen the cherry blossoms and they are a sight to behold, but this time we have to go when our grandchildren are on summer vacation. We always pack a couple of changes of clothing in our carry-on… just in case. So far, they’ve always returned our suitcases eventually. I’m glad we have the Apple Tags now.

Tiffany and KC will join us in Tokyo from Chicago and Keola will join us with his family. We are really looking forward to this.
