My Kauai cousins sent me a text telling me about a movement called the Ides of Trump. It's another way to protest (more or less) respectfully all the damage that Trump is doing.
I found this on CBS News:
BERKELEY (KCBS) – A protest by postcard inspired by a Berkeley man could be the next grassroots campaign that captures the nation's attention, as well as President Donald Trump's.
Letting President Trump know what you think is as easy as walking to a mailbox, said Zack of Berkeley, who came up with the idea for "The Ides of Trump." Zack asked KCBS not to use his name for fear of reprisal.
"This is a simple, cheap and easy way that people can show up and be heard. All that you need is a 4x6 piece of card stock and a stamp," Zack said.
His goal? A million or more postcards, all mailed to the White House on March 15th, the Ides of March.
And this is how you need to address your postcard to be mailed on March 15th.
It's also mentioned that you can just put your message on an index card and send it. I decided to use some firmer tagboard and cut it into the the maximum 4" x 6" size so I can mail it with a 56 cent postage stamp.
A friend asked me what grievance I would write about. Good grief! I have too many! I'm going to need several postcards. Hey! Maybe this will get the United States Postal Service out of the red.
I'm pessimistic that anything can move Trump, Musk and Vance from ruining our country, but I know doing nothing can do nothing.
That sounds like a positive action. I hope there will be thousands of postcards overwhelming the White House. Not much hope of the orange one taking any notice - he'll just lie and claim he's being validated.

ReplyDeleteHmm. I think it is worth paying for a stamp that will allow mailing to the USA. But, here is a thing. Trump operatives, as I read and hear analysis, are targetting reasonable Republican representatives and senators who do not agree and bow to the Trump decisions. If the half of the electorate that did not support Trump were to support these elected people and prevent the Trump machine from removing them from Congress, perhaps Congress would develop the strength to keep Trump in line. I just saw a member from the Conservative party get elected here in Ontario and I am glad because our Conservative provincial government is strictly Canada first. It is the people who will fight this that need our support. I don't think Trump will care how many postcards he gets; someone will tell him they are rigged and he will gloss it over. But he will care about how many votes he gets to pass his fiscal fixes.

DeleteTrump and his administration are so vindictive that I just don't want to take chances. I saw this Ruth Marcus column in our Star Advertiser newspaper this morning. This is an excerpt:
Delete... “Deranged Jack Smith,” Trump declared. “We’re going to call it the Deranged Jack Smith signing.” More formally titled “Suspension of Security Clearances and Evaluation of Government Contracts,” the order revoked the security clearance for Peter Koski, a Covington partner, and called for terminating any contracts the government has with the firm. (In fact, there aren’t any.)
Koski’s offense? He and Lanny Breuer, another Covington partner, agreed to represent Smith, the special counsel who investigated and indicted Trump during the Biden era.
Trump has called for jailing Smith “and his Thug Prosecutors.”
According to a financial disclosure form Smith filed on leaving the Justice Department, Covington has already provided $140,000 in pro bono legal services to Smith.
Trump has issued executive orders that are more significant and others that are more malign. But this one encapsulates the myriad dangers that Trump presents in his second term. He has been unleashed as never before to operationalize his petty vindictiveness, revoking security clearances for former intelligence officials who have crossed him and yanking security details for other opponents. Now, he not only wants to deploy the Justice Department to go after Smith but also wants to ensure Smith does not receive proper legal representation. As Trump well knows, Koski and other Covington lawyers need those clearances to do their job as Smith’s counsel..."
I don't trust this administration.
WOW you are right to be as cautious as possible, which in itself is a sad state of affairs in a modern democratic (small d) country. I watched most of the speech last night on BBC, yes he is vindictive and untrustworthy, and requires constant praise. He loves to mock his opponents. School bully with a vicious streak. It's going to be a long four years, on both sides of the border.

ReplyDeleteDoing so might prop up the USPS financial numbers for March. I'm not optimistic that doing this will convince anybody of anything. People seem entrenched on their side and independent thought seems taboo these days.
ReplyDeleteI think both our countries need to figure out is they want mail, or if we all want to go back to the old days. Snail mail is essential for some. I cannot switch to e-bills, as what if something happens to me, and Joe doesn't even know we have a bill?!
