Broken TV?!? Arrrghhhh!

We always watch the news in the morning on our TV that we have mounted on the wall while having our breakfast.

One morning, there was no sound. Art changed the channels and none of the stations had sound.

Doggone it! This isn't that old a TV. We just replaced it 2 years ago!

Aggravation!!! 😧 But before getting tooooo upset about it, I thought I'd look online to see what you should do if the TV should suddenly lose its sound.

And this is what it said:
Reset and Power Check
  • Unplug the TV: Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Drain residual power: Press and hold the physical power button on the TV itself (not the remote) for 30 to 60 seconds.
Wait: Leave the TV unplugged for 30 minutes, then plug it directly into a working wall outlet without a surge protector.
And voila! Oh my gosh! There was sound again! I could hardly believe it!

And needless to say, we were happy the rest of the day.😄

  3. Often unplugging for a while, taking a 10 minute break, and then replugging will fix something techy .... strange but always good to try it before phoning the repair company.

  4. I'm always glad airplanes aren't like computers and other electronics where the first solution is to always power down everything and then turn it back on!

  5. That was really smart to check what to do before trashing the TV. We just got our first streaming TV. The other one was 20 years old. Lots to learn with this one.

  6. That happened to me quite a few times. Unplug and reset and it works! Great job!

  8. Well. Thanks. I haven’t experienced this but now I’ll know what to try.

  9. So glad that worked, Kay. So many things can be fixed by unplugging and restarting. I do it a lot with my iPhone when it acts strange. Wish we could do that with people... (sigh!)

  11. I wish all tech fixes were that easy. Directions you can actually follow.

  12. Draining the residual power is an odd concept....I didn't realize there was such a thing as residual power once you unplugged. Not my only area of tech ignorance!

    1. Kay of Musings: Actually we just unplugged and plugged the TV which did the trick.

  13. Good, glad you worked it out. Once, we had to call the cable folks to get our TV back and I told the guy, "Hey, I'm old, I have to have a TV". He laughed. I am sure it is because I don't look old. LOL.
