Although Patty came on a regular Hawaiian Airlines flight, Paul took the more challenging transit method of catching a standby military flight. I'd always told Art we should try it, too. I see now why he's been reluctant. Paul tried to catch a flight out yesterday (didn't make the cut) and then another one this morning at 4:30(cancelled). Patty caught her flight back to Seattle today. Paul will try again tomorrow. If that doesn't work, he may have to catch a regular commercial flight. I see what Art meant now about the inconvenience of catching a standby military fight. It's true, but the price (free) is hard to beat.
Here's a bird we saw at Hickam. Patty thought it might be a plover. I have no idea what it is but I thought it was pretty. We're still amazed at the unexpectedness of our coming together again after 30 years or so. Patty and Paul's decision to come to Hawaii was a sudden one to celebrate their wedding anniversary that coincided neatly with our decision to take a trip to Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle in less than 2 weeks. After Paul returns to Seattle, we'll be seeing them again at their home where they will be taking care of us. Isn't it rather fortuitous how things sometimes work out?
Hello!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to have found your Blog. I'm going to enjoy reading about your traveling adventures!
I love to see new places but I'm not very brave about flying - the longest I have been air-borne is 4 stressful hours at one time. However, we just made reservations to celebrate our wedding anniversary in HAWAII in July. So we'll see how I do on such a LONG flight!? I'm amazed at all the places you've been. Can't wait to follow along with you!
you are having too much fun. we really enjoyed the aircraft museum at hickam base=you'll have to check it out. my hubby's dad flew in army air corp in the aleutian islands by alaska. looks like fun picnicing.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to know you and Art are having so much fun these days and I know you're going to really enjoy your trip to Seattle plus all the other places! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to meet up with old friends and just pick up where you left off, won't it be fun to meet up with them again in a few weeks time?
ReplyDeleteI love how you all take care of each other.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's a tall bird.
I'm glad you have met your old friends again. Looks like you're having a great time, and will continue to do so when you visit them.
ReplyDeleteHickam Air Force Base. I have been there four times, or maybe five. Bought things at the PX there. Can't remember what. I am glad you guys got together. It must have been fun and lots to talk about.
ReplyDeleteI used to catch flights to the US from Japan on space availability basis and then would have to get other flights from San Francisco on to Wright Patterson Air Force Base. It was not always a zip right through but it was through. LOL
I try to do some things that are inspirational in some way. Not always successful. Gobsmacks
Looks like a really nice outing!
