I think many bloggers have noticed that my blog visiting has been sporadic for quite a while. It's because I've been totally engrossed in scanning all our old photos. I'm about 2/3 done with photos, but then I'm going to have to work on slides.... arrrrghhhhhh!
I was working on scanning some old photos from 1981 and found these two that just made me tear up.
This photo was taken in April of that year. We had gone on a two week camping trip to the East coast with our friends, Don and Marlena. They were brave to come with us since Jon wasn't even toilet trained and full of energy.
We were in the Smoky Mountains. Jon was looking at the vista around him and just loving the beauty. I'm wondering if this is how Art embedded the love of high places with Jon. You know how they later climbed Mt. Fuji and Kilimanjaro together.
This other photo still tugs at my heart.
Tiffany's first day in first grade. She was trying to be brave for Jon. Jon sensed her tension and was gripping her hand.
There's a butterfly band-aid on his chin from a very deep cut he'd gotten after a fall at Lincoln Park Zoo. (That would be another story.)
We were outside waiting for her when school was over and she came out full of smiles and laughter.
Jon would begin pre-school two weeks later and he did not go so quietly...maybe because he didn't have Tif to hold his hand.
There are hundreds of photos I've scanned, but it's funny how just a handful will evoke such strong memories and make you go back to look at them.

sounds like the scanner is about to get worn out, lol. And I don't have any idea how that Internet protocol, "I visit your blog, so you have to visit my blog" ever took hold. I always thought that was a bit ridiculous. Me-wise, "not a problem."

ReplyDeleteWith digital photography we have SO many pics of our grandchildren, but not as many of our kids. They do fill many albums though. We have scanned a few of them. Doing them all would take forever.

ReplyDeleteYes, I can think of about six of what I call "iconic family photos." There are not very many but they are very sigificant in my mind and emotions. The look on Tiffany's face is extremely expressive, to say the least.
ReplyDeleteI got a little teary eyed seeing these photos myself. I just loved both of them. First there is that pint sized version of Jon spreading his arms in enthusiasm as he views a great scene. One just knows he will always want to be embracing nature in this same manner for the rest of his life.
ReplyDeleteThen, that darling picture of Tif and Jon is a real tugger at the heart. I love the juxtaposition of the frilly, sweet dress on a scared looking brave girl who is holding that big red briefcase. She looks ready to take on the world in one sense because she knows she is equipped, but she also looks like she knows she is taking that scary first step into the world that does not include Mom and Jon.

ReplyDeleteYes, those two are truly worth saving. I fully understand how you feel. As you know I am doing the same job as you are....and now the scanner is in a far better place to reach. Only six file boxes to do...with the names and dates, and I will be done.

ReplyDeleteI have many slides to transfer to computer but just haven't had the time to tackle the project.
I bought a thing that transfers them from slide to computer. It's call *Ion....slides to PC. got it at Staples Office Supply. Sounds easy but still haven't opened the box/ha
those pictures are precious.
