Day 16 May 23rd: Going Home

We woke up at 6:00AM  to a bright and clear day.  Thank goodness!  There was a worry of more Black Rain and airplane cancellations.

Our bags were out the door by 9:45.

We grabbed a Starbucks coffee so that we could get the free wifi and met up with the rest of the group for breakfast.

That's when we learned that McDonald's had free wifi too!

Our flight took off for Incheon on schedule and we went to the Korea Traditional Cultural Experience Center as we promised at the start of our trip.  We got to decorate little mirrors with mother of pearl.  Only foreigners are allowed to do this.

There was free wifi at the airport so we were happy to see that my brother would be able to pick us up at Honolulu International Airport when we got back home.

We ate bi bim bop on the flight over from Hong Kong to Incheon.

We had another bi bim bop on the flight from Incheon to Hawaii.

The newspaper on board the flight headlined the Black Rain.  What a surprise!  We had no idea it was that serious!

It was wonderful to be home again.  We passed through immigration without a problem and said good bye to our tour mates while promising to see each other in another month or two.  It was great to see my brother's smiling face greeting us at the airport.  We went home to reassure mom that we'd happily survived the trip with many wonderful memories.

  5. Is that bowl the bi bim bop? Interesting that some red sauce is applied with a toothpaste tube. The rains look like a building roof collapsed. Glad you made it back. DrumMajor

  6. What is bi bim bop? I hope it was good since you had it twice. I've really enjoyed reading about your trip to China, and it has certainly whetted my appetite. But I bet you were glad to get back home again.

    1. Bi bim bop is a bowl of rice with vegetables, some pickled vegetables, etc. with a little teriyaki sort of meat on it. The red sauce adds a bit of a kick to it. It's really quite tasty.

  9. Could that be why the flight was cancelled going into Hong Kong? Seems like you may have missed the worse of it.

    1. Hmmm...I now recall the reason you mentioned was low passenger count...but I'm almost sure the reason for the unexpected drop in passenger count was the inclement weather especially since so many businesses were closed on that day. Glad you enjoyed Hong Kong despite the mega downpour.

I recently told husband that tourists are the last people to know how to handle (escape) weather challenges like a tornado if we were to visit the midwest, even as far south as Texas.

  15. And so the two of you end your trip as fresh as the day you started. At the end of travel I look like a wet noodle. I am dragging my bags and barely able to stand and cannot wait to get inside my front door. You both look like you are ready to start all over again. Thanks for taking me along. It was a delight! Definitely the best way for me to travel is from my armchair.

  18. That sign must have made you feel good. Although we don't travel too far from home, there is a freeway sign that always makes us smile, Herndon 1 Mile. It is our turnoff from Highway 99. Recently, roadwork has caused the sign to be removed for the duration. Although we were still close to home, not seeing the sign made us feel a bit sad.

I'm sure you will be off on the next trip soon. Happy trails!
