Annual Birthday Celebration

We always have the worst time getting everybody together to celebrate any occasion because of doctor appointments and varying work, and school schedules. This year we all decided to just celebrate everybody's birthday on one day sometime in the middle of the year.

I got pretty excited. We started cooking from the day before making kinpira gobo (burdock root), nishime (Japanese stew), lemon chicken, cucumber namasu (cucumber in vinegar) and a large soba salad.

I made goodie bags for everybody with an assortment of healthy dark chocolate and ummmm... well... you know.

My nephew and his wife brought over two kinds of Anna Miller pies. My cousin actually made chocolate-chocolate chip ice cream!  It was awesome! My sister-in-law actually made macaroni salad and deviled eggs even though she broke her foot in two places last week. My brother brought over a huge plate of sushi.

All in all, it was a very happy celebration.

Next year, I'm adding balloons!

  6. Just delightful looking. I am very impressed.:)

Underwire bras: Take an exacto knife, and make a tiny cut on the top at the arm pit through to the wire on the back side. Ease the wire out, and poof, you have an underwire bra. LOL

  8. I can see that a fun time was had by all. Tell Art the National Arboretum here in Washigton has opened a Japanese Pavilion with hundreds of bonsai trees...including the oldest one in the world (survived Hiroshima).

  18. It's a good idea to do your celebration in this way. You're all adults so it doesn't matter what day you celebrate. Now I just have to say happy birthday once. Happy birthday everybody.

    1. I'm afraid I have no idea how to make the lemon chicken. It's my mother's recipe. My brother and his family as well as my kids are hooked on it. Art and I are not as excited about it, but we're the only ones. I've told my brother that he should come over and watch her make it and write down exactly what she does, but he hasn't. I think unconsciously he does not want to think of her ever not being with us. I guess I feel the same way.
