We were having noodles at Shige's Saimin in Wahiawa when I noticed this long, large white board full of folded origami dollars. This is just one section of the collection.
I asked the waiter who had made all these incredible origamis and he said customers had begun leaving them as tips. I was absolutely amazed!
No, I sure wasn't able to add to the dollar creations, but I sure wish I knew how to make one.

What a novel idea. My daughter-in-law worked in a Japanese restaurant years ago and someone taught her how to make a little bird. She turned a foil mint wrapper from the end of one of our first restaurant meals together. I still have it.

ReplyDeleteOh i could have, i could have made a bow tie, i use to do it along with a ring though i forgot how to make the ring, we just did it as kids though we didn't have a name for it.

ReplyDeleteI remember a professor at UH ejecting a female student, who was making origami for her wedding in class. She was supposed to be learning, not fooling with birds. Lol.

ReplyDeleteI took up Oragami for a while but always used square paper. Very impreesive idea to make them with dollar bills and the display is interesting.

ReplyDeleteI make dollar bill origami creations to put into the advent calendars I make for my grandkids. Sometimes it is a piece of chocolate and sometimes it is an origami butterfly out of a dollar bill. Or a sticker or a pencil--just little things but they enjoy it and my daughter loves it because that's how she gets them out of bed on dark December mornings.
