I've always had a problem with reading too long. My eyes quickly get tired and I end up closing one eye to read. I don't know why I don't have the same problem when I'm reading things on the computer.
There was one optometrist in Chicago who finally addressed my problem saying I needed prisms. She was particularly sensitive to this because she had the same problem.
When I came to Hawaii, my new optometrist didn't think I had a problem with reading. I told her I often had to shut one eye to read. I think she thought it was all in my head... the brain part, not the eye. Hmmm... Maybe it's both.
The other day I was reading and put my hand over one eye and then looked through my fingers just to test it out for the heck of it. It seemed to make a difference. I could read for a longer period of time using both eyes.
I decided to experiment.
I got some Post-It tape and covered most of my reading glasses except for a slit on both sides.
By golly, it was more comfortable to read.
I do believe I'll be asking for prisms when I go for my annual eye exam in September.
Meanwhile, this will have to do.
Then again, maybe it IS all in my head.

Well, of course it is all in your head, because that's where your eyes are! I think the prisms sound like a great idea, Kay. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are funny. How about going to an ophthalmologist instead of an optometrist? Yes, a little added prism helps me too.
ReplyDeleteDJan said exactly what I was about to write. I second the ophthalmologist. Let us know.
ReplyDeleteThat's certainly a creative temporary solution to your problem. You probably shouldn't go out that way, though!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of the prisms.
I have never heard of this before, very interesting,
ReplyDeletewe just have to do what ever works,
You're very creative! I'm glad 'Post-it' idea worked for you. You look cute!
ReplyDeletefirst I'm hearing about prisms. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of prisms either. The post it note remedy is pretty cute.
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of prisms--and I thought I knew/had every eye problem!! You are definitely creative to figure this out.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it is not in your head. Well, I guess it could be since it is in your brain. My eye doctor specializes in such prisms. The condition is called visual mid-line shift. It was believed I had this after my head injury. I did not have it and didn't need the prisms, but I do have a visual vestibular disorder that I need to do therapy for occasionally. My mother has prisms in her glasses for the mid-line shift. She noticed it at church when she would look at the music projected on the screen. Look it up on Google. Good luck. You have a cleaver fix.
ReplyDeleteMY WIFE HAS PRISMS FOR READING. THEY WORK! It was hard to adjust them to the right place.
ReplyDeletehmmmm.....
ReplyDeleteI often have this issue, my eyes get so tired that they get blurry and i have to squint to see, wow, thanks for the lesson. i shall inquiry during my next eye exam.
Prisms? First time I have ever heard of that. You look really cute, btw.
ReplyDeleteI wear bifocal contacts and have for forty years. Glasses are uncomfortable for me and I get better vision with contacts anyhow. Good luck with the prisms.
ReplyDeleteYour eyeglasses have taken on a very unusual look! I have trouble reading for long periods of time as well, kind of gets a bit foggy. The doctor doesn't seem to think I need any special treatment either, so will have to ask about prisms, although I have no idea what that means. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI usually don't read too long. I can't seem get in a reading mood at the house. I'm more comfortable reading in a library. It's the strangest thing
ReplyDeleteyou look very pretty in those glasses..
ReplyDeletemaybe you are starting a new post it trend! i never heard of prisms before.
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever solution that actually works. You do have a problem solving mind.
ReplyDeleteThat is soooo interesting!!! Gonna look it up now.
