Life

Someone sent this to me a long time ago and it really struck a chord so I kept it to remind me that if things look its worst, it has to be better tomorrow.

My mother has had quite a few horrible, tragic times in her life that she thought she might not be able to survive. She did and tells me adversity can strengthen you. She tells us often how happy she is and keeps looking over the albums or our trips together.

She survived. She's grateful. And she's happy.

I hope I can learn from her example. I hope.

  1. Your mother is a wonderful role model for us all. She has chosen to be content with life as it is and is grateful for all the good, accepting of the adversity that shaped who she is. Wonderful post, Kay.

  3. I did read a study on this that struggles in our life do balance us for the good if we accept that. Having someone who can explain this as we move from one challenge to the next helps us live the best of our life that we can.

  4. Sometimes when we have had to struggle in our lives, struggle makes us stronger and we are able to cope with other life struggles easier. Your mother is very wise.

  5. I find getting up with a smile helps. It's a choice to make. I find it easier to kick demon butts with a smile on my face.

  6. How true. An excellent saying. I think there is a progression. It's easy to look around our place or contemplate our lives and muse, "Our parents wouldn't believe how good we have it."

  8. My mother in law had many kids no husband in her life, she chose a vastly different point of view, most of her kids recoiled to even see her she had her sons live with her and they were pretty miserable too! She chose her husband a real bum over her many kids and they suffered and she suffered, at the end of a long life almost 87 she gave up and died one evening the day after her only girl grandchild graduated with honors from college..She adored her but was miserable, I have strived to be positive and nice, if I make a big mistake I have a wonderful husband who helps me go thru it, I will never be like my MIL who made sure for the 27 years I knew her to be miserable, it is a choice indeed in this life..why be miserable with all the beauty and kindness in this world, the young bride to be in Sacramento who her groom to be cancelled an elaborate wedding over $33,000 and a catered meal turned into what could have been a tragedy into hope and happiness homeless and hungry got to dine on a huge feast and whatever was left she donated & her lovely parents to a food pantry, now that is what I say is making lemonade out of lemons, kudos to her and her lovely parents, there is always something in this life to be happy and grateful about! Aloha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I am the Mom of the grandchild whose grandmother passed right after her graduation with honors who was really miserable! I was kind and nice to her and never said anything untoward she was my hubs of many years Mother, she liked me but chose to be miserable. When we took her out to eat she seemed happy and never complained, when she saw her only girl grandchild she was nice and did not complain .But with her other children she was not nice, I sort of figured it out, she seemed to think her kids owed her everything but not me cause I was a daughter in law! She lived until nearly 87 for a woman who smoked about 60 years that is a long life and she got her kids to do everything for her by intimidation but not me I think she knew it would not work for me at all, she backed off, of course we live a long ways from where she lived and we could not visit that much..One has to have a positive life in order to be happy, aloha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. When you moved back to Hawaii to be with your mother, did you have any idea how successful you would be in enriching her life, or she in enriching yours?
