One morning a couple of weeks ago I spied Mom looking through two travel albums that we'd put together a few years ago. Putting together these albums take a LOT of time, a LOT of time. It's painstaking, often tedious and prevents me from getting other things done (like my blog and visiting).
However, here she was looking through the two albums where we'd taken her and her sister, Auntie Grace to Japan, the National Parks on the west coast and Canada and she was smiling ear to ear, occasionally chuckling with remembrance. Auntie Grace passed away last February and Mom is only now able to look back and smile at the happy times they had together.
The next day, she once again looked over all the photos in the book we made for her about the trip to Seattle and Vancouver that we took this past April.
I think it's really true that more than material things, what makes a person happiest are the precious memories they can gather and remember.
So we'll continue to take the time to make our albums. Please forgive me for not having been able to visit these last few weeks. I'll look forward to catching up, once things return to normal.

sweet memories-every once a while I spent time looking through my old blog posts-fun stuff!
ReplyDeleteYes, your mom's face says it all--a labor of love.
ReplyDeleteKay, I make my albums online with Shutterfly. I can select the most important pictures that tell the story, post little headings to describe where we were, and order the album. I find that by selecting those pictures that tell the story, it's all we need for the memories.
ReplyDeleteYou do what you have to do!
ReplyDeleteI made a photobook for my granddaughters, which was really fun!
See you soon!
Normal? What's normal?
ReplyDeleteVery fine post, Kay

Looks like good times. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt would be so hard to live without our photographs.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your mom has gotten to the stage where she can again look at and enjoy pictures of her sister, of blessed memory.
You're doing a great job with those albums, Kay.
This normal for you, How very nice Mom enjoys those albums.memories are made of this, I think!
ReplyDeleteHow nice for your mom to have the memories of those trips in photos to look back on and relive. I love the albums of my family and trips we and later I took and they would probably be the first thing I grabbed if my home were threatened.
ReplyDeleteLook at that smile. :) I make my albums online now. Less time. More money. The results are a little less personal when they are printed out by Costco tho.
ReplyDeleteSending you hugs.
Actually we're really loving the Costco books and the print will probably last longer than what I did in those folder albums. Art says he's seen mom look at those photos almost once a week to relive the trips we've taken. It does make the work worthwhile.
DeleteThis photo gave me a smile. It is lovely to see the smile on your Mother's face. Lots of work to put those albumns together but i know it must have been a labor of love and here is your reward :)
ReplyDeletePriceless memories indeed, all the more considering the time and patience you take to put the albums together.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you make those albums. They really do capture the time that will never be again. Love to see Mom smiling. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood times , good memories. It must be rewarding for you to see your Mom enjoying the photos.
ReplyDeleteYou, Art, and your mom are so special and good for each other. It is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYour albums are wonderful creations, and that smile is the pay off!
ReplyDeleteYou are so nice to do this, and it's also nice that your efforts are truly appreciated.
