Since more people have been killed by white supremacists, antigovernment fanatics and other non-Muslim extremists... well... shouldn't they be encouraged to leave our country instead?
I'm just saying...
I have yet to find out what happened (if anything) in the Republican debate last night. And I may be wrong, but I still find the whole group of them to be a little scary. I'll be voting for the Democrat. And you're right, but logic is not what people use to make decisions on voting. :-(
ReplyDeleteI actually watched the debate (I'm a pretty staunch Democrat). I couldn't believe how crazy they almost all were. Rand Paul (and Carson) seemed the only sane ones there. Neither has a chance. It makes me very, very afraid for the future of not only this country, but the world. :(

I just looked it up, Mage. Thank you for bringing the Nobel prize winner's comment to my attention. I found this on the BBC website (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-35109350):

David and I will probably vote for Trump. Hillary was a bad secretary of state (Libya), and she is naïve and gullible (believing her husband's lies about Monica Lewinsky).
ReplyDeleteI think national security issues are paramount now. The last thing I want is for terrorists to barge into the Blaisdell and shoot us while we are listening to a symphony concert.

ReplyDeleteI agree and will vote for Bernie. However, two things Trump has going for him: Too rich to bribe, Too dumb to lie.
ReplyDeleteHe is scary, blunt, and strong. I respect him as a businessman and risk taker and I like the fact that he was never a politician so he doesn't speak politician lingo. He would be like Arnold Schwarzenegger as Gov. of California. A thorn in their sides (he called his senators and reps "panties", lol.) Trump would be a thorn to almost everyone.
One of the things that I miss most is not having Jon Stewart to watch. I can just imagine how he would have so much fun taking apart the candidates with Trump being the brunt of his focus.
I miss Jon Stewart too. His mother came to talk to us a long time ago when I was teaching in Illinois. She said she has a banker son who is Jon's older brother and nobody asks about him. But, yes, Jon would have a field day with Trump.
DeleteTrump just plain scares me. So much of what he proposes would alienate other countries and peoples. He plays to people's prejudices and fears.
Jon Stewart's mother! She must have been a trip - his Jewish mother who raised such a smart and wonderful young man.
DeleteTrump doesn't scare me - after all, it isn't a dictatorship and it would really be a field day with him as the leader stirring up the ire of Congress. IF he does win the Republican nomination, I wonder who he would tap for VP - Sarah bleeping Palin? Oh, how I wish we still had Jon Stewart...
Actually, the one that really scared me and America gave him a free pass, was GW Bush with Cheney and Rumsfeld. They were calculatingly evil. We are now paying the price for their deeds.

I will vote for Hillary if she gets the nomination. The Republicans have such a mess! I am a registered Republican but always vote for the person regardless of party.

ReplyDeleteI don't entirely agree with Trump but he does have a point. Perhaps deveoping a serious immigration plan for real refugees would halp ease the tensions raised by the government allowing immigrants from regions that hate the USA. The White violence is brought on by the way some immgrants lack respect for this country.

ReplyDeleteThat is a good post. The problem is that so many people are taken in by strong rhetoric. It’s true that Jon Stewart could easily show their lies. Unfortunately in my state, red state of Georgia, I just found out that 72% of Republicans (and that is most of the voters) support Trump’s ban on Muslims, even US citizens. Anyone voting for him must be out of their mind. If people don’t want more terrorists then don’t vote for Trump. I am an immigrant to this country (from France) – when I came here most immigrants came from first world countries, with education. (All the foreign people I knew, by the way, went back home.) Now, most immigrants come from 3rd world countries, uneducated and poor. As for the young bright Americans – they are leaving the country. Because they are afraid of losing rating with extreme conservative viewers not many news media report that this year more US citizens (over 3,000 in the first quarter) have renounced their citizenship than ever before even though the US Gov up the fee to over $2400 for each person – so US people leaving are bright entrepreneur and people coming are from south-east Asia or Latin America – although since 2009 more Mexicans have returned home than came in. I don’t know what will happen in the future – does not look good. A survey showed that the trend is that since 1960 the people here are more scared, more intolerant, more prejudiced, more religious (Christian that is) and hate those not like them … they don’t want to hear the truth.
ReplyDeleteI did forget to say that with numbers like that, within a few years old white conservative people will be a minority. Let’s hope that the others will be more tolerant, and will vote.
