Whenever my Zumba buddies and I go mall walking we end up at Starbucks for drinks afterwards for some socializing because it's the only place that's open at that hour. We always complained that there was too much ice and very little tea or coffee making it even MORE expensive than it already was.
Then my daughter, Tiffany arrived from Illinois and told me that we should have been ordering LIGHT ice.
Really???
You can order less ice? Isn't the drink pre-measured?
Well...
The next time we went to the mall Tiffany did the ordering for me. She ordered ICED chai latte with soy milk (60 cents extra for those of us who are lactose intolerant) and LIGHT ice.
I figured they'd cut the ice and I'd just end up with less chai tea also.
But no....
I actually did get chai latte to the brim with much less ice. Wow! I spread the word to my other Zumba buddies and we are much more pleased with our drinks now.
Still... these drinks are really quite pricey. However, we're doing it for just a short time until our Zumba class is back again in August.

I avoid Starbucks and go to a local coffee shop, which gives me exactly what I want, every time. But if I do end up at Starbucks with some friends, I'll remember your advice. :-)
ReplyDelete"Light Ice" is an expression I had never heard before. I have been out with friends who are very specific when ordering and do not mind sending things back if direction were not followed. I guess I am too meek. Oh, well, someday the earth will be all mine.
ReplyDeleteI'm shaking my head yet delighted with the solution.
ReplyDeleteI read last month about someone suing Starbucks for putting too much ice in their drinks.
ReplyDeleteYou have a smart daughter! Looks so yummy.
ReplyDeleteI thought you were referring to less sugar not ice...lol!
ReplyDeleteThrow caution to the window and enjoy life, order Starbucks. Unfortunately I don't like many drinks from Starbucks so I suppose that wouldn't work for me.
ReplyDeletelooks delicious
ReplyDeleteI don't really tell places if the drinks are unlimted but I do if they aren't. That's how they get them massive profits
ReplyDeleteGood to know!
ReplyDeleteBoy, these millenials know everything, don't they? We were their teachers, and now that they're in their late 20s - early 30s, they teach us a LOT of things! It's good to have them around.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! You should see what they're teaching us about saving money. It's incredible!
DeleteGood to know, I didn't hear about light ice!
ReplyDeleteI had heard there was quite the controversy about Starbucks and the ice. Good to know you can change the way they serve it. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI tell them two ice cubes.
ReplyDeleteI rarely go there but when I did order ice coffee in a few sips it was all gone, what a gyp. Now I know the secret, thanks for sharing. BB
ReplyDeleteTiffany is very happy to help. :-)
DeleteSo some of don't know all the tricks. For self serve drinks as in Wendys I never put in ice.
ReplyDeleteso glad you were able to get your drink to your liking. now your walks will be even more enjoyable. have a great night~
ReplyDeleteGood to know, mahalo! I was so ono (hungry) for iced chai latte after your post about it and I got my Starbucks app downloaded and ready to use for an upcoming visit to Starbucks. I will take your friend Joanne's advice and ask for 2 ice cubes. So smart!!!
ReplyDeleteLast time I was at Starbucks I ordered a grande (16 oz)latte, as usual, but got a tall (12 oz) instead. I said, "This is a tall. I ordered a grande", and they made me a new drink. Starbucks will give you what you want. You just have to ask for it.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, they fill the cup, even if part of the fill is foam.
Kay, if you consider the walk and the latte as socializing with friends, the cost is minimal.
Thanks Honey -and you have music from Tiff! How sweet
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your drink! I'm not a huge fan of Starbucks at all, but I do love my coffee!!
ReplyDeleteFor the Fourth of July, the vendors are offering shaved ice on the Mall here in DC. Wonder if Starbucks is making it?
ReplyDeleteAs my daddy always said, "Who woulda thot it?"
