Tabebuia

Art goes on long weekly walks with his high school classmate, Morris. He will often take photos and text them back to me in case I'd like to show it to all of you.

He sent this one a while back of the Tabebuia tree.

Wikipedia:
"Tabebuia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Bignoniaceae. The common name "roble" is sometimes found in English.  Tabebuias have been called "trumpet trees", but this name is usually applied to other trees and has become a source of confusion and misidentification."

Actually, a lot of local people think it's a shower tree although it really isn't one.

I love the bright yellow trumpet flowers because it really stands out against the blue sky.

I often take it for granted, but have to chuckle occasionally when I realize that if I were a tourist here, I'd be taking tons of photos of those trees.

Hmmmm....

I just looked up and right outside my window, I've got this huge plumeria tree in full bloom. I suppose I need to pay more attention to the beauty in my own backyard.

  2. I love the smell of plumeria and they remind me of my wedding where I made a bunch of plumeria leis.

  5. These are wonderful. That roble tree is beautifully framed against the sky, and your plumeria is full and beautiful too. Thank you for sharing them with us.

  6. The first tree looks a little like a tree in Sweden that's like 10,000 years old, which makes it older than religions

  9. I married a local girl on the Mainland and the seemingly inevitable result was that I ended up moving to Hawaii in 1978, almost forty years ago. My very first impression was, "look at all the flowering trees with big and beautiful flowers." I was used to apple and cherry-type trees that have short-lived, small flowers, beautiful for a brief moment, but not spectacular.

My second impression of Hawaii was, "look at all the 'house plants' thriving outside the houses. Mother-in-law's tongue (Sanseveria)? That only grows inside the house, I thought.

  10. Sometimes we get desensitized to the beauty around us everyday. Glad you and Art looked---and shared.

  12. My mother called it the Gold Tree. So striking and lovely.

Didn't realize how our trees have big flowers compared to the Mainland until after I read a comment on this post.

  13. LOVE the plumeria trees around the islands. Royal Lahaina on Maui has many big ones on their grounds and they drop flowers overnight, ready to be picked up for leis by morning. (I read that the very fragrant plumeria blossoms were used in older times in Hawaii, placed around newly deceased folks so their fragrance would overpower the body's odor until it was buried.) My favorite flower. The pink and dark burgundy plumeria (Kauai)are amazing too. Wish they'd grow in Kansas. Everything seems to grow better in Hawaii. We have little potted poinsetta plants here. Maui has poinsetta trees! Linda in Kansas

  14. Two impressive trees. The first photo works really well with the framing and complementary colours.
