We're doing it again. Art and I will be participating in the Great Aloha Run (GAR) though it's really a walk for me. Art used to run it until his doctor told him, "No more competitive running." It's all for charity with proceeds going to several organizations on the islands. We've done this every year since moving back to Hawaii from Illinois.
The EXPO on Saturday was the time to get our racing bibs, etc.
The GAR is 8.12 miles long from the Aloha Tower in Honolulu to the Aloha Stadium in Halawa.
I think I can make the 1 mile marker fine although it sometimes feels like the longest stretch.
We collected our bibs and information, checked out the route and walked through the exhibits.
This is the 35th year of the Great Aloha Run and we actually know some wonderful people who have done it every year since the start. Unfortunately they won't be there this year and we'll miss seeing them.
While you're reading this, we shall probably still be walking toward the Finish Line. At least I hope I'm still walking...
Fingers crossed.

I'm impressed. I hope it's going well (or went well).
ReplyDeleteSo here it is Monday, and I'm thinking the run was likely on Sunday? So right now I think you are fast asleep recovering. Well I just checked and it is on Monday but 8 am EST is very very early morning where you are. I'm thinking now you haven't even woken up to walk this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, all the best with the walk!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to both of you for doing this once again. I've enjoyed reading about it from afar every year. :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah you! That is awesome!!! I love that you keep doing this...I am the same! I used to run but now am only allowed to walk but I still love all the race fun and excitement! Congrats on the finish!
ReplyDelete8.12 miles is a heck of a walk on a good day. Congrats. I run 3.5 on my elliptical and am wiped out the rest of the day.
ReplyDeletewhat an accomplishment...I can walk a mile and that's about it, maybe two...lol!
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Kay. I couldn't make the length of that building. Maybe a motorized cane...
ReplyDeleteI likes reading about your walk experience. Stay right in there! Once you stop moving, you will no longer be able to move.
ReplyDeleteGreat that you both are able to participate -- a good feeling on many levels, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteCongrats once again on this challenging run/walk. 8.12 is one long walk. Proud of you both.
ReplyDeleteWalking toward mile one will do. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, and well done, to both of you for doing this once again :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Good luck
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteGreat that you participate in this event.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for doing this again. 8 miles is beyond my limit now.
