I got up this morning at 5:30 and saw it was still not conclusive. And then an hour or two later, I got a text from my teacher friend, Gerri in Illinois.
"Woo hoo!!! Our new President Elect Joe Biden!"
"What?" I texted back and then checked the news.
Oh my gosh!
He won! He won!
I am so relieved. Biden has been decisively projected to win the electoral college and the popular vote.
Trump is not conceding.
But now there's the huge job of making it an America to be proud of again instead of the Red/Blue Country.
I'm so happy to see most people celebrating are wearing masks. What does that say about it all?
POSTSCRIPT:
We decided to celebrate with Panda Express for lunch. Guess who is really, really happy about the election.
Art went down this morning to tell her and she was already watching early morning news from Japan. She knew the results almost before we did. Now that was a surprise.
Kay you're my favorite person today--what a huge, sweet relief! We made history too, Kamala as the first woman, first person aof color to become VP--so overdue! Well we do have a difficult road ahead but we also have a terrific pair to take the reins! I worry for the next 2 months but at least we can see a better future again...

DeleteI am happy and relieved too, although the numbers had me convinced of victory several days ago.
ReplyDeleteThe next two and a half months are going to be difficult, during the transition. And then be prepared for Mitch and company to again try to block everything a Democratic president wants to do for the good of the nation. Every election is going to be important all over again.
I am thrilled and hopeful. It sure seemed like a long time getting from Tuesday to Saturday, months of life condensed into five days. And I am so happy to know that, no matter what else might happen, we will have a new President installed in January!

ReplyDeleteDear Kay, i voted for Donald Trump, but he didn't get in. Oh well, onward and upward. i can only hope, they let Joe Biden have atleast a few minutes here and there, to himself - a measure of time to think, uninterrupted - maybe even time to enjoy a novel, once in awhile.

ReplyDeleteIt’s going to be hard to wait for 72 days to begin to repair the damage wrought in the last four years. Still heady with joy right now and hopeful once again that someday soon we will be proud to be Americans.
