I wrote a post in the middle of June about trying the camellia oil that mom swears by... I mean really swears by. I scoffed at her need to have it, but she insisted it helped to keep her hair from going all white and also to not lose it.
OK. I decided to give it a try. Besides, I am losing quite a bit of my hair and yes, it is going white and my scalp does get itchy.
So I ordered it on Amazon. I followed the directions about rubbing a few drops into my scalp.
Uuuuummm...
I wanted to see improvement. The first time I did it a WHOLE bunch of hair fell out, probably because I was rubbing my scalp so much. However, there wasn't much hair falling out for the next couple of days. Granted I was only doing the "treatment" every 3 days or so. Eventually, I didn't see any improvement and my scalp is still itchy.
So I'm giving up.
Mom can have the rest of my bottle. Maybe you have to do it for decades like she has, but I'm afraid I'm too impatient. And maybe you have to just believe to make it work. Whatever the case, I know she'll be happy to have the extra bottle.
Sigh...

I've never heard of that. Interesting though...
ReplyDeleteKind of a moot point for me. :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe believing it works makes it work?
ReplyDeleteIt's called survivor bias. Your mom's air survived turning white and falling out as she was using the oil but that doesn't mean everyone will survive those fates using the oil. They just aren't as good about pointing that out, at least until you posted this.
ReplyDeleteI would like to find something for itchy scalp too. If you discover a solution, let me/us know!
ReplyDeleteI almost got it when you first posted but backed off. Now I think I will pass. Pretty sure both things you mentioned are necessary, a lifetime of use and belief. Thanks for the trial run for us.
ReplyDeleteI have been going gray since my early thirties. My mom says it is the Irish in me. Who knows. But I am ordering a bottle. My hair gets thinner and thinner and my hair being white I have to fluff my hair to keep my scalp from showing. I don't have much hair on my body. A little native American can be handy. But what is this stuff on my chin. I wish that could grow on top of my head.
ReplyDeleteI just changed my shampoo and added acceptance. Now I have nice thick curly hair. LOL
ReplyDeleteYour mom believes in it all good.
ReplyDeleteOh, well, it was worth a try!
ReplyDeleteI wrote a post about phatics, i.e. questions such as "How are you?" and I really answered that query with detailed going ons with me. I do believe that taking CBD has made my hair fill in. I use gummies from Charlotte's Web but I suppose any form of CBD would work as it has an entourage effect - everything is affected. A bit later, I started eating black garlic cloves - one or two a day and noticed that my hair was turning black again. Not all of it, but enough so it looks like I am in the beginning stages of my hair turning white rather than how it was before - more white than black. Another therapy that has the entourage effect.
ReplyDeleteWe can meet up and I can share some black garlic with you since I make it quite constantly and give away to special friends who it seems to help.
As for your mom, she is just awesome. If we could all be like her!
Well, maybe you have to talk nice to camellia oil so that it will work!
ReplyDeleteWell, you gave it a try. Maybe you were not sincere enough. :-)
ReplyDeleteAs for me, my hair is not falling out, my scalp does get itchy, and I like my silver hair. Two out of three's not bad.
Oh, dear. Our older hair is dryer, especially after it goes gray.
ReplyDeleteOh, good. Mom will be happy.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your Mom will be happy to have the extra bottle :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
