Last week Wednesday was crazy because I decided to do my bi-monthly blueberry muffin baking even though I needed to get it done by 9:30 because my grandson, JD calls between 9:30 and 10:00 to FaceTime with me for about an hour and a half.
So I rushed at breakneck speed to get it done and just managed it. Then I sat down (a little winded but) all prepared and waited… and waited… and waited.
Finally, I called my son and left a message asking if something was wrong. He called back 5 minutes later to say he hadn’t even picked JD up from school yet.
Hunh?
Oh nuts! There’s now only 5 hours difference instead of 6 between Hawaii and the East Coast. Arrrggghhh! Hawaii does not do Daylight Savings and every spring and fall… sigh… I forget. And I now have to remember that it is 4 hours difference between us and Illinois where my daughter lives.
Ah well… I got to take a rest after the hectic morning and be really ready for my grandson who FaceTimed me just before 11:00. But then I needed a quick snack because it was close to my lunchtime. 😄
JD said Hawaii must be the hottest place on the planet. I was puzzled and said it was actually cooler now than in the summer. I just realized looking at this photo why he said that since I'm in tank tops and shorts and it must be very chilly in Maryland. My daughter did text me a video of snow in Chicago.
Even though we still don’t feel safe enough to travel, it’s really remarkable how technology has enabled us to laugh, love and learn together.
But seriously, do we really need Daylight Savings?
POSTSCRIPT 1:
OK, yes. I did stay up until 9:30 PM hoping I'd see the reddish moon. I just couldn't make it until 11:02 PM.
POSTSCRIPT 2:
OK again, then Art got up a half hour later and said I should look again so out the door we went again.
It's going to be even weirder when some states (like Washington) are on DST and the one next to it isn't. And we didn't even have a chance to watch, with all the clouds. You did great with what you did capture. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Kay, I went out at 3:45am EST and had to stand against a pine tree to block the streetlight. For once we had clear weather. A cold front had just passed through. No more 70-degree days.
ReplyDeleteI did see the red hue. The local meteorologist explained that the red hue comes from all the sun rises / sun sets from the Earth reflecting against the moon. As the Earth's shadow gets smaller, the Sun reflection takes over and less of the Earth's light refracting thru the sun-rise/sun-set is visible.
It was rather chilly outside, but I had my winter coat, some warm boots and a hat. I was fine for 15 minutes and no mosquitos. Just one small plane heading for the local airport.

I’m so glad you got to see it. I used to love there being no mosquitos once the temperatures dipped. We get them year around.
DeleteYou have my vote for ridding ourselves of this nuisance time changing business. I live about in the middle of the time zone but my brother lives on the very edge of the time zone and the airport I flew into last week was in the other time zone. My head hurt from thinking about flights and times to leave when two time zones were in play.

ReplyDeleteAnd I want to thank you for alerting us to the lunar eclipse. I watched Shang Chi on the DisneyPlus and it finished at 11:00 and I went out to see what I could see. It was a clear beautiful night and right above me was a beautiful red moon with stars showing up around it. I started getting a crick in my neck looking up so I lay down in our driveway and enjoyed the sight for several minutes. I was a bit sad that all the neighbors seemed to be asleep or not aware of it because I was the only one out there gazing at our sky. I wish our newspaper had a front page headline announcing the eclipse instead of junk terrible news.

The morning moon was especially red pretty Dawn yesterday. Yes, I try to adjust my blog so it will come at the accustomed time for everyone. After 4 years in California I will never take Oahu sunshine or balmy temperatures for granted again! These pewter days we've recently had are all the winter I need. Best wishes to you guys

ReplyDeleteHaving to remember the time differences between California (Art's relatives), Illinois and Maryland is difficult for my aging brain. I didn't think of the moon looking like it was being erased, but now that you mention it, I see it.

ReplyDeleteI wanted to see the eclipse, and figured that I'd take a quick gander at it when I got up to go...well...never you mind where I was going. But anyways, I went, and then I went back to bed. I totally forgot about it.
