With all the horrors happening now, I felt we just had to go out and join the protests happening across the country. We marched for Science in 2017. I think my cousins on Kauai have gone to every one.
When I was at my physical therapy session for vertigo, my therapist whose mother was also a teacher had already made a couple of signs and were going to protest along with his dad. My therapist's brother was in the Navy who had been deployed to the middle east.
Anyway... I won't go into all the junk that's been happening. You already know.
But I needed a sign. And my mind was a blank.
I looked online and there were so many wonderful, clever, ingenious ideas.
I liked the IMPEACH TRUMP sign.
But the more I thought about it, he's already been impeached and it didn't work.
Then I saw that DUMP TRUMP sign and I loved it.
As far as I'm concerned, he is a piece of heartless garbage that thinks only of himself and putting his name everywhere.
We were worried about our fighter pilot who'd gone into Iran to drop bombs.
Are we just ignoring the report that at least 168 to 175 people, predominantly school children aged 7 to 12, were killed in a U.S. strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls' elementary school in Minab, Iran, on February 28, 2026.
They're thinking it was a mistake due to old information.
Uh oh... I'm getting distracted again. Arrgh...
OK, I'm liking the DUMP TRUMP so I asked my brother with the fine arts degree for help. He came up with this and he said that for $20.86 I could have a 20" x 30" sign printed.
He warned me that it would cost more in supplies to make a "clean" poster by hand. 😕
OK, he did help me anyway. He made the words, stars and Trump caricature with his computer.
And this is why I wanted to do it by hand... sort of.
I'd already bought stencils a while back when I first thought about making a sign.
I spaced things out to make sure they would fit.
I only had a tube of orangey red so I added some blue to it to make it the MAGA red.
Then I glued on the stars, Trump caricature and MAGA words.
And here it is! My wonderful, artistic brother will come and watch over mom while we attend the next protest rally. We already have good friends who will come along to join the cause.
Art was watching a video about Henry David Thoreau and was reminded about Civil Disobedience.
I got this from Wikipedia:
"Resistance to Civil Government", also called "On the Duty of Civil Disobedience" or "Civil Disobedience", is an essay by American transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau, first published in 1849. In it, Thoreau argues that individuals should prioritize their conscience over compliance with unjust laws, asserting that passive submission to government authority enables injustice. Thoreau was motivated by his opposition to slavery and the Mexican–American War (1846–1848), which he viewed as morally and politically objectionable.
And then I saw this photo online. So yup. We'll go to the next protest and join the resistance. I already know our grandchildren would be proud of us.
POSTSCRIPT: Oh gosh! And I know the whole world has now seen this AI generated image that Trump posted on his Truth Social website.... along with his rants against Pope Leo.

When is enough enough and the insanity of it all. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteYou put a lot of thought and effort into your sign. 👌👍
ReplyDeleteNice work. A very recyclable sign too. He is disgusting. Even his mother said he would be a disaster. Be safe! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job!
ReplyDeleteWonderful sign, unfortunately I think there will be many chances to use it coming up.
ReplyDeleteCeci
I saw the post he made about himself and tried to walk back saying he was a doctor. He properly got chastised for that one.
ReplyDeleteI like Henry David Thoreau though I think he would be opposed to making such signs for protests. He believed in focusing on the root of issues rather than engaging in superficial, hostile discourse. Even the Reverend Martin Luther King was against that form of protest and said hate could never drive out hate, only love can. Thus I lean towards more civil discourse than signs denigrating others.
Kay of Musings: I don’t know how to make a protest sign with love. However, I can work on one covering issues. But there are too many. Didn’t it take a war to end slavery? Didn’t it take war to end the holocaust? I may be Buddhist, but I find it hard to fight his cruelty with love.
DeleteIt did take a war to end slavery and the holocaust. Wouldn't it have been better for all who died in those wars to have solved both with civilized discourse and/or love?
DeleteKay of Musings: It would definitely have been better, BUT do you really think it would have been possible then or now?
DeleteGreat question and one which I can't answer. I am not a scholar of either event to know if there were potential off ramps before the wars broke out. But I think of examples of great things that have happened through largely civil discourse such as women's right to vote and the fall of the Berlin Wall. I imagine that would have ended differently if Reagan had treated Gorbachev the way Trump treats his opponents these days by calling them disgusting names! I would add the Civil Rights Act to this list as well though there was violence associated with it, mostly because it passed with bipartisan support with only a small group of southern Democrats trying to block it.
DeleteI got this from Wikipedia: Suffragettes in Great Britain and Ireland orchestrated a bombing and arson campaign between the years 1912 and 1914. The campaign was instigated by the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), and was a part of their wider campaign for women's suffrage.
DeleteI've read that there were also some terrible things done to women who were fighting for the right to vote.
Sigh...
You're right though and I agree that it would, of course be far better IF civil discourse alone could end injustice.
Well done! I hope there are lots of supporters.
ReplyDeleteGood job with your poster!!! 👍 Did you see the follow up AI vid of the real Jesus descending upon the orange baboon and sending him to hell? One can only hope…🙏
ReplyDeleteWow! I just saw it. I guess the Iranians are reading his Truth Social too.
DeleteGreat poster!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes to your sign and your persistence and resolve and intent and to every No Kings protest everywhere. Inspiring.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful sign! John was in charge of sign making and also my daughter. I admire all the work you did; I have no clue how to properly make a nice-looking and sturdy sign. OD did the Dump Trump one with a poop emoji, which fits in many ways.
ReplyDeleteGreat sign and well worth the effort! I noticed some signs along the fence by Moiliili Field where the homeless tend to camp out. At first I thought it was anti-Trump but it was praising him for MAGA. I thought that was rather ironic - I don't believe Trump would be very sympathetic to the down trodden.
ReplyDeleteYour sign is wonderful!! I love the color!!!
ReplyDeleteMy signs are all the same. I buy black foam board at the Dollar Store. My husband drills holes randomly for the wind. I ordered several packages of white 4" letters last year. I keep it simple. My last sign said "His War, Our Sons". I have been to enough protests now that I am starting on the backs of posters, too.
Thank you for standing up in public!
You went to a lot of effort to make your protest sign.
ReplyDeleteWhen the protests started over a year ago, we bought some posterboard and a set of broad tip markers. I just write my message. I have made several of them now, changing to fit the current theme. I may have to invest in more posterboard. :-)
Great poster you came up with. Demonstrating might seem useless but not demonstrating means you approve of what's going on.
ReplyDeleteThe scariest thing about djt is he gets worse and worse. Now all his exploits involve humans dying. The poster is just fine. No need to use extra money on a sign with his image. He literally makes me ill. My sister was sick. He quickened her death by creating an environment of no hope for the poor. I feel like he killed my sister. He destroyed her Hope. She did not want to live. Betty Renfroe
ReplyDeleteI have been beside myself day after day. I never knew that there were SO many hateful people who then claim to follow their religion. I think of my grandchildren. My 7 year old granddaughter now has fewer rights than I did. Our 11 year old grandson asked us about the war and then reminded us that he is a "mean orange man". Out of the mouths of children. I hope to outlive him. I just turned 70....Michelle
