Amazing First Ladies

One of my very dear teacher buddies, Judy posted this photo on our chat group. I love that even though I've been away from my Illinois teacher buddies now since 2006, we still keep in touch almost every day.

This is the photo she posted.

The photo was taken at the opening of the new Obama Presidential Center. I was then interested to see what degrees each woman had.

Jill Biden: (Whitehouse Historical Association) Jill Biden holds four academic degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Delaware (1975), a Master of Education from West Chester University (1981), a Master of Arts from Villanova University (1987), and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in educational leadership from the University of Delaware (2007).

Michelle Obama: (White House Historical Association) After graduating from public school, Michelle earned her B.A. in sociology from Princeton University in 1985 and then attended Harvard Law School, receiving her Juris Doctor three years later.

Laura Bush: (Wikipedia) Born in Midland, Texas, Bush graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in education, and took a job as a second grade teacher. After attaining her master's degree in library science at the University of Texas at Austin, she was employed as a librarian.

Hillary Clinton: (Prezi) Hillary liked school and was a straight A student. She maintained a 4.0 gpa through Junior High and High School. Hillary graduated with honors as a National Merit Scholarship finalist from Maine South High School, Park Ridge, Illinois. She attended Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She graduated Wellesley college in 1969. Hillary was accepted to Yale University Law School and graduated with honors in 1973.

Some people forget what amazing, brilliant women these men (who happened to be our past presidents) were married to. And yes, the guys were smart too. 😄

  3. Love it! We need more like them. Gosh, can we make it a law that the Prez at least, has a graduate degree? Male or Female? Or anything in between? It was refreshing to see Obama's speech and behaviors again. Linda in Kansas

  6. My husband always said, marry someone smarter than yourself. We each feel we got the better end of the deal. We have said, all these 51 years .that together we make a great team. By ourselves, well, we do okay, but we are definitely better together.

  7. And now we have a call girl and a criminal and so many still adore them.

When Bill ran for attorney general of Arkansas, he walked the streets of our town and asked my husband to vote for him at the feed mill he worked in. . The owner was a republican. He said “he’ll never win”. He did and he did it by walking streets and getting votes from the common folk. My friend danced with him at the Mt Nebo chicken fry. If he met you, he remembered your name.

  13. One connection not made is that smart women marry smart men. There is a snarky comment that I could make. I won't because the smart commenters here are already thinking it.
