Japanese View of American Politics?

My daughter recently sent me this diagram that she found somewhere. She knows I can always use ideas for my blog posts.

I added a translation so you can see what the Japanese words are.

I'm not exactly sure what the Democratic guy is signaling to the girl. Hmmm.... I should write my cousin in Japan and ask.

Ahhh.... so Democrats prefer sushi to fried chicken? Soul music to Country music? I like folk music myself. Hmm..... small gas economy car to gas guzzling truck. (OK, we do have a Prius hybrid.) New York Times to Wall Street Journal. CNN to FOX. Sure.

Wait a minute. Basketball vs. Baseball? Seriously? Art and the whole family and lots of my Illinois friends are die hard (Wait 'til next year) Cubs fans. Well, I'm sure they're Bulls fans too.

It's very hard to generalize a Democrat vs. Republican. I think.

POSTSCRIPT: I asked my Japanese cousin-in-law about that Democratic boy and girl relationship. She says it infers Democratic couples tend to be more relaxed and informal. I guess they haven't seen those clips of MAGA women wearing those t-shirts saying, "Trump can grab my pussy."

  1. Interesting perspective, I guess. Yeah, republicans might greet women’s differently, and I think red states re pretty football crazy. Blue too, I imagine.

  2. The drawings are cute, but I don't think there is really much generalization in a group. I think there is a lot more common ground and our fearless leader is trying to tell us that there is not.

  3. I guess I'm about an even mix of items on both sides. I attend church, have apple products, have fuel efficient vehicles but live in a house. I do have the occasional diet Pepsi and prefer sushi to fried chicken. This fits me in the sense that I am somewhere in the middle of both the major political parties. To me, the whole idea of political parties seems somewhat cult like and an attempt to prevent people from thinking independent thoughts.

  4. I agree with Miss Merry that you can't generalize.

  7. Interesting! Stereotypes are an interesting phenomenon. We tend to want predictability in that which can be unpredictable.

  8. Democrat here. Don’t really like soul music. I’ll take fried chicken. Others things don’t jive. I don’t like cnn or Fox. I like to read my news. The poster is fake news. 😂😂

  10. We can't just bunch everybody into one group. We're all individuals. Fun post to make us think of things.

  11. Interesting chart I love the conception that other cultures see us in this way. I am good friends with a Trump-er but we never discuss politics or anything related to that. We stick to our long friendship and things we both love.

  12. I also agree with Miss Merry that you can't generalize these things. People are more alike than someone wants us to think. There are extremes and exceptions in both groups. But I think/hope we are more alike than not.

I really LOVE hearing from you! However, if you sign in as ANONYMOUS, please don't forget to tell me who you are in the comment box by just writing your first name. We would all appreciate it if you kept your comment respectful and kind.

I’m using Comment Moderation for any post that is more than a day old because of aggravating SPAM. Therefore, if your comment does not go up on an older (more than a day old) post, it's because I need to OK it first. I'm sorry to have to do this, but again... sigh... it's the spam that's driving me crazy.
