Pineapple: We were so surprised at how sweet the pineapple my mother has been tending tasted that we decided to go ahead and plant its crown also. We stuck the crown in a jar of water until the roots formed. Now we'll be able to plant it in soil.
Papayas: The papaya tree that we thought would never bear fruit has finally given us a fruit to harvest.
Mom has been watching the fruit ripen for several days and insisted that Art go out and pick it this morning. It's still pretty firm though so we'll wait a few days before we have it for breakfast.
See that other papaya tree quivering in the background? I just threatened it with the axe if it doesn't start doing something soon.
I can't imagine growing papayas in my yard. What a treat!

Great photos Kay, hopefully your other tree will take note after being shown the ax! We have to get our house sprayed every year, otherwise the termites would take over and we've already had one swarm that was the most scream hollering event ever from me when I came down one morning and found zillions of them flying around the front room!!! Another reason why I don't like hot and humid weather.

Such odd plants you have there in the tropics, compared to ours. No self respecting fruit here would grow out of the trunk of a tree! And how cool to be able to plant the top of the pineapple fruit to grow another!

ReplyDeleteBetty: I actually did a post about male and female papaya plants. I don't think the other papaya is a male. I believe it's called Solo which means it is self pollinating or something like that. I think it's a late bloomer. :-)
