If you look under our Christmas tree you will see this nice little box with the Apple logo on it.
It makes me very happy to see this box.
You see... a while back I did a little part time job which gave me a bit of splurge-able income.
I'd been wanting an iPad ever since our friend, Dave extolled its virtues to me. He said I could use it on trips instead of carrying around a heavy laptop.
Sounded like a wonderful idea.
However, I wanted to get the latest version of the iPad because I know they keep bringing out newer models. It would drive me crazy if they came out with a new one right after I decided to buy one.
I was diddling around some more when my exasperated daughter said, "Just get it, mom. If you'd really like to have it.. for goodness sake, just get it! What do you really gain by waiting except losing the time when you could have been enjoying it?"
My income from the job only paid for a little over half the cost of the iPad + warranty, but Art said it would be my (I said OUR) holiday gift.
We went to the BX and the salesperson was very helpful. He said the latest version, iPad 4 had just come to the store in November. No kidding?
I couldn't remember what the difference between the 3 and 4 were so I just looked it up.
This is all geek to me. He also said the iPad 4 has one feature that is quite different from the others... the plug thing or whatever you call it.
Because of this difference, the iPad 3 adapters, etc. won't fit. I'll have to wait a few months before the newer USB/camera adapters come into the market.
OK... I confess.
The box under the tree is empty.
I'm just having a lot of fun with my iPad right now. Do you know I can take a photo and have it go magically straight into my computer without doing a thing?
My iPhone screen is so little that it's hard for me to read without glasses on.
With the larger iPad screen I (I mean we) can read e-mails, look up stuff on the Internet, check sports scores (Art), look for carpentry tools (Art), do travel research (Art), see photos and do a myriad other things so much easier.
The only thing I haven't done is convince Art that I got it for him. Ah well, maybe I can get him a case for the iPad during the After Christmas sales.
After all, it does belong to the both of us.

1. A6X (vs A5X) processor
a. 2X the compute power (like Geekbench score)
b. 2X the graphics power (more frames per second, fill rate, etc.)

3. Faster WIFI, plus 5 GHz N coverage
4. Lightening connector
5. 720p Front facing camera
What is the same:
1. size, weight
2. screen resolution
3. same storage capacities

ReplyDeleteDo you find that the iPad takes better pictures than your Canon cameras?
ReplyDeleteI haven't used the iPad camera enough to know. I know that the iPhone does an adequate job but cannot compete with the Canon camera. I don't see how it can since the Canon has a bigger lens. On the other hand, if our mutual photographer friend, Dave was using the iPad and I was using a $5,000 Nikon his photos would be a thousand times better than mine.

ReplyDeleteGood for you. I love my iPad, and there's no way I'm sharing it! I use it for so much. When we're watching the television and someone asks 'I wonder how old he is?' Or 'Is she still alive?' I can look it up instantly. Or if I find a recipe I like it just sits on the worktop while I cook. We've used it as a satnav too. I wouldn't be without mine now, though I do like the look of the new mini iPad that's just come out.

ReplyDeleteThat is the iPad mini, right? My brother bought one and simply loves it! He carries it with him everywhere, whereas the previous larger versions just didn't work for him. If I were buying a new one, that's the one I'd be getting.
ReplyDeleteActually no, it's the regular iPad 4. We did look at the mini, but I wanted the larger size for my failing eyes.
Deletewe do that too, get couple gifts-last year it was new carpeting for the computer and master bedroom. This year- Allen got new shoes and I am looking for something like an iPad???

ReplyDeleteOnce we couldn't have imagined this, and here it is. My dad would be so in love with all this technology; I's sorry he just missed the first PC.
ReplyDeleteMom says the same thing. She marveled at how she first had to go by boat from Hawaii back to Japan when she was 6 years old, and now it only takes about 6 hours by plane to get there. Phone calls used to be expensive, but now she can actually talk to her sister in Sendai for pennies and even see her on the computer. It's all so incredible.

ReplyDeleteGreat pun on "it's all geek to me." That's how I feel about all that technical jargon. I have a phone with 4G and I don't even know what it means. Regarding puns, I taught 17th Century English literature in which puns are very common. I learned that people who groan at puns are missing out on one of the p[;[p-=joys [I'll keep that inmcomprehensible little bit of language because the cat just did it by jumping on the keyboard on the way to the water faucet, thereby helping me out with my message] of language---saying something with deep background and double meaning. Treating your entry as a poem, I come up with the idea that even Shakespeare would have shared in the idea that incomprehensible language can be "all Greek to me" plus it adds a light touch of humor suggesting we as humans have been baffled by big talk for centuries.

Wonderful! You can get an app called Photo Transfer App that will transfer any photo you take on your IPAD to your computer, all wireless.
ReplyDeleteActually, the amazing part of all this is that whatever photo I take on iPad and iPhone go directly into the Photo Stream which goes wirelessly onto my PC automatically because it's going into that nebulous CLOUD thing. I LOVE it!

I have a Kindle Fire HD box under the tree. Well, not really because I don't have a tree this year but I do have a new Kindle Fire. WooHoo! It was a combination wedding anniversary and Christmas present from my spouse. I haven't told Ron about it yet:)
