My Trader Joes Weakness

One of my dear friends came back from Vegas and brought us a box of these Dark Chocolate Edamames.

It's really candy when you get right down to it. However, I've justified eating it by saying it's dark chocolate.  Isn't dark chocolate good for you?  It's edamame which is soybeans and it's got 7 grams of that soy protein.  Then again, is it GMO soybeans?

It wouldn't be bad if I could stick to just eating a few beans, but there's something about that little crispy crunch in the middle of the dark wonderful chocolate that makes me lose all will power.

Oh well, at the rate I'm going I'll be finished with this carton in no time.  It's a good thing we don't have Trader Joes in Hawaii.

  1. Hey Kay!
I wonder if they are gluten free? If so, they would be good for my husband!
Moderation, dear Kay! Of course, I need to tell myself that! HA!

  3. If it doesn't say "organic," it's most likely GMO soybeans. We have a Trader Joe's here in Bellingham, but I avoid it, since the parking lot is always full, and the prices are pretty high. Some people just love it, though.

    1. Same here on the parking lot at Trader Joes. Plus, people who go there do not seem to know how to drive. I've had a few close calls in that lot. As for the prices, they are lower, on most things, than Whole Foods, but their produce is not organic. As for those soybeans, unless they are specifically labeled, NonGMO, then they are GMO. It's just the way it is.

  4. Those sound really good.....and of course they are good for you. :) We will have a Trader Joe's opening here in the fall, so I will put those on my list.

  5. Edamame is one of the first words I had put together to figure it's meaning in Japanese. Luckily branch (eda) and bean (mame) weren't far away in the vocab chart. Makes perfect sense.

  7. I think dark chocolate only counts for good if it's above 70%. It starts getting pretty bitter at about that range. The 85% is healthier but very bitter. Less that 70% is considered candy.

  8. Nope, doesn't count at all. Next time I go in, I'll see if we have them too.

  9. The gals at the Sport and Health club brought many goodies from TJ for our post exercise treat. I don't know if the stuff was good for us?, but they were all fat. Dianne

  11. I visited the new Trader Joe's in K.C. I think it's overrated and expensive.
Try some of the 70% dark chocolate bars; a couple of squares seem to eliminate the "need" for more. The 80-85% bar got trashed.
    Good luck! DrumMajor

  12. Same thoughts here...good thing we don't have Trader Joes here. But while in Vegas, we often visit and buy our snacks from there every time we pass the Decatur store. This past December, the big find husband so raved about was their $5.99 Chianti wine in the basket flask. He said that wine sells for more than double at our local grocery store. In fact, if you can find it at all in the stores. That alone sent us back so often, plus the quirky names made it so fun to browse. Same with our Don Quiote store...jam packed with stuff. When we can't sleep (sometimes we're up so early am), husband jokingly asks, shall we go to Don Quiote (open 24/7)?
