In the midst of the hustle and bustle of getting my blog posts written and working together with Art on our China digital photo album which we'll print for mom to see and send to our families, Art's cousin, Susan arrived carrying a heavy bag of Hayden mangoes.
She must have been startled to see us rush out the door with our exclamations of glee. We do LOVE mangoes and Haydens are our favorite. Susan's tree is producing a wonderful crop this year.
Sigh... I wish we knew more people with a Hayden mango tree, but I mustn't be greedy. It was the best dessert tonight.
We were able to give her some lemons from our tree and even a Meyer lemon seedling which I hope does OK. We had her check out our assortment and select the one that spoke to her. Yes, we did warn her that the tree isn't supposed to produce for 9-10 years. We'll see. I'll write about it in another 8 years. Stay tuned.

ReplyDeletewe get our mangoes from the supermarket, and they are fabulous at this time of year! Yours look amazing and of course fresh off the tree!
ReplyDeleteI love ripe mangoes and am always disappointed when I buy one in the store here. it probably came from someplace after having been picked very green and is never very sweet. I love fresh fruit of any kind, but mangoes... they are very special, Kay. :-)

Mangoes here are so disappointing. I can't remember when I last had a good one.

DeleteI didn't realize there were different kinds of mangoes, let alone one could prefer one kind over the others. Although they are beautiful when whole, I get my mangos cut up and flash frozen by Dole, ready to pop into a blender for smoothies. I love the fruit, but find it baffling to cut up given the pit. ReplyDeleteWe didn't get any mango happiness this year yet. Our cousin doesn't drive so I guess it is up to us to stop by. Last year, we had a lot going on with him, but not this year. Sigh...I don't especially like mangoes tho.

Fresh mangoes? They look wonderful and such a blessing. Like Djan says, the store varieties aren't even close. They are so good for you. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYou are fortunate to have fresh fruit to enjoy. I like the concept of eating fresh and local produce in season, but if I were militant about it (as some are) I would only ever have apples, stawberries and blueberries for fruit. I like all three, but there are certainly a lot of other good things waiting for me to taste.

I really like the idea of having a lemon tree and finally getting lemons on it after 9 or 10 years. Just think how happy you would be when the tree would begin to produce fruit!! xx
Oh, this is yummmmmy, Kay. I LOVE mangoes too, they're delicious. I've never had Haydens before, going to see if I can find some and give them a try.
