Thinning Out the Closet

This title might not be appropriate because although I'm removing things that don't quite fit me anymore, it's not because I got thinner.

Mom always tells me that as you get older, gravity pushes everything down.  Well, whatever little I had on top definitely sank to where I didn't want it to go... just below my waist.  Sheesh!

I had a whole bunch of shorts I brought with me from Illinois five years ago.  I hadn't worn them in a while and decided to try them on a few days ago. Some of the styles are a little outdated according to my daughter.  (She means the waistline should be below my bellybutton.)

If I took a deep breath I could fasten the snaps.

I wondered if maybe I did a little more exercise and watched what I ate a lot better, I could lose those five pounds that are all centered around my middle.

Never mind.  They're all going into the donation bag.

  1. I hear you. I had a whole closet full of jeans I could no longer wear when we got ready to move to Bellingham. I tried each pair on and got rid of half of them. When I actually got here, I decided to rid myself of the other half, since cotton jeans don't do well in rainy weather. :-)

  4. Too bad...those are such nice looking shorts in a variety of cloths. I guess l am just a hoarder and have a difficult time parting with everything I already own. My goal is to need less and make more of what I consume. Hopefully the twain will meet.

  5. What goes around comes around in fashion. In ten years, they will be the rage. I have a dress I wore in 8th grade and a pair of capri pants that I wore in 1966. They look just like a pair I bought two weeks ago. I refuse to be dictated to by fashionistas and I don't buy anything below the belly button. That isn't where my waist is--women aren't built like boys. Older ladies have a muffin top and anything below it slides even further down--butt crack. Low riders and bell bottoms were popular in the late 1960's and I wore them when I weighed 100 pounds. I don't any more. Sorry--I knew I shouldn't get started on this subject.

  6. I donated all my fat pants when I lost weight a few years ago BUT I regained it and now I can't fit into the skinny ones SO I have to buy all new ones. You got the donating part right! lol...

  7. I would never be able to wear those shorts. I either have no waist or no hips, depending on how you want to look at it. Boyfriend cut pants are my friends. I was once in a store and heard a woman say to her friend, "Who does Gloria Vanderbilt make these pants for!?" That is a brand I can usually find something that fits and Babana Republic modern cut. Talbot's pants look ridiculous on me. The hips on them puff out about five inches below my hips and look like jodhpurs. We are all different.

    1. And I love Talbot pants! They are about the only ones around now that I can get that fit me. I need all that "puffing" out around the hips!

  9. I have four pair of shorts that I have had for years and only wear at home. I had more, but when we moved to SF for 15 months, where I would not be caught dead wearing shorts, I got rid of the older, shorter ones. In the summer, when it is so warm here, I wear capris or skirts when I go out. Our winters are so cold that I have a variety of pants I wear, both casual and dressy.

  11. Wise decision, Kay. I'll bet you've balloned from size 4 to size 6! Or is it size 2 to size 4?

  12. I did the same thing earlier this year...the shorts that only fit half the time went to Goodwill. The funny thing is that I'm ten pounds lighter than I was when I could get the buttons on those shorts closed, so I KNOW it has to be my body changing shape!

  13. Cute shorts. I used to wear some just like them. Then, my daughters informed they were out of style. And, the truth is they no longer fit me either. I don't know what happened. Where did that inch plus gap between buttons come from? I still think the shorts are cute. They are classic styles. What do out daughters know?

  14. If you haven't been wearing them, or can't, there is no point in keeping them. Maybe someone else can by your donating them.
I need to go through my closets again, as I move from winter to summer clothing. of course around here I might need some of those long sleeved shirts for a while yet.

  15. I have one pair of shorts that I haven't worn for years, the weather in the UK together with my age puts short-wearing out of court. I'm having the same problem with where my weight's gone to though, My hips and bust are quite slim, but my waist size is rapidly catching up with them!

  16. Like Hattie, I really am trying to feel badly for you with your single digit size problem.
Was not aware of the fashion faux pas regarding waistband location. Here I thought just making sure my clothes were right side out was enough:))

  17. Well I went to the senior citizen center last week to pick up our $4.00 meals and learned when I returned home that the seat of my pants was ripped out. At least I had been with my own kind. Get rid of the pant before this happens to you. lol
