We've been taking tai-chi now for about two years and love all the people we learn with. It's a joy to go and see them every week. We laugh about the fact that there are four Kays in the two classes that meet on Thursdays at the park and three Calvins.
Well yesterday two Kays, two Calvins, Art and Myra went to the Mililani Golf Club for lunch. It's the first time the six of us have gone out together and it was so much fun.
Calvin suggested Alonzo's at the golf club because he thought they were more relaxed and wouldn't chase us out after our meal.
The golf club is an older one, and does show its age. However, the people there are so very friendly that their smiles really brighten the atmosphere.
Calvin and Myra recommended this hamburger steak which they said they always split because it's so large.
When it arrived, we were really surprised. It's enough for three people!
Calvin and Kay also had the hamburger steak and shared it with us to try. Yum...
Art had this spicy Chinese fish dish. I can't remember the name. He liked it, but felt it was a tad bit too salty for him. I didn't think so. He brought some home for mom to try. I know she's going to love it!
I had their Alonzo's Hawaiian Beef Steak which is their signature dish.
Nope. I didn't bring any home to share. Art agreed I had the best dish. It was very tender and tasty. It was also a bit on the pricey side at $17.99, especially since we weren't sharing a meal.
We spent more than three hours there and had the best time! (Joanne Noragon mentioned in the comments that she could figure out which were the two Calvins, one Kay and Art. I'll give you another clue. The other Kay is next to me so that would just leave Myra.)
Since leaving Illinois in 2008 we have missed all the friends we'd made in the 35 years we lived there, not to mention our daughter and her family. (I didn't mention our son because he lives all over the world.) Yes, Art and I both have classmates, long time friends, neighbors, relatives and extended family that brighten our lives here in Hawaii. However, having these wonderful new friends really add such richness and happiness to our lives.
And the best part in all this? We all agreed we needed to do this again.

Question from a vegetarian; whats the white stuff ? Is that rice ? Rice is served that way in our traditional sit down wedding dinners eaten on banana leaves . (Not many people do that any more but its a smart way to eat.)
ReplyDeleteThat's two scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. Actually, that's what a usually serve with a plate lunch. A plate lunch is a meal on a plate that you take away to eat. Hawaii is famous for it.
DeleteIt is nice to get together with friends. As I recall very little is too salty for you. My husband is like that. He salts pizza and sausage even. I always feel like the salt police at the table.
ReplyDeleteWell, as another vegetarian I don't eat much (make that any) hamburger, so it didn't look so good to me. But the wonderful time spent together with new friends certainly does! :-)
ReplyDeleteI spotted two Calvins and one Kay right away in that picture. Lunch looked yummy. Friends even better.
ReplyDeleteNew friends and good food....sounds like a wonderful afternoon. It sounds like these are people you will be friends with for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI've never eaten a golf club/course. Never had money to eat after paying the course fee lol.
ReplyDelete*eaten at a golf club/course
DeleteVery Wonderful.
ReplyDeletesocializing is so fun and especially with new friends...
ReplyDeleteVery local cuisine, and I agree, kind of pricey. But the three hour table time made it worth the money.

the food looks lovely Kay, you are truly blessed with good friends and family!
ReplyDeleteLunch bunch--good way to see friends. You have lots of time and the prices are usually less at lunch time. Going out to dinner is hard for me, because by evening, I'm not too sharp for conversation.
ReplyDeleteWhat a grand idea. I love getting together with friends, and then realizing 2-3 hours have passed with great conversation. Tai chi is probably better than golf anyway. DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteA really good time is reflected in this "feel good" post. That food looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI am trying to go vegetarian but I must say all that meat looked wonderful if a bit much. Huge portions.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, do this again and NEXT time, pull up another chair for ANOTHER Kay...me!!!
ReplyDeletexx
Wouldn't that be so much fun?
DeleteThat's a lot of meat! Especially for lunch. I would be missing the fruits and vegetables. But your happy smiles are lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt wonderful that you can go on making good friends. I look forward to that soon.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great get together and always good to meet new friends.
