During the summer, Zumba is reduced to just one day a week on Fridays for me because the center is being used for summer time programs for children who are on vacation.
Children in our area are now back to school so I can go to Zumba twice a week on Mondays and Fridays again.
This was our first Monday and I can't believe how hard it was for me to get myself out the door. Then I thought about Myrtle, Pat, Diane, Irene, Lynette, Alyce, Joanne, June, Naomi, Renee, Esther, and everybody else. I got my zumba bag and headed for the center.
Seeing everybody's smiling faces confirmed why I love to go. It's not for the exercise alone, that's for sure. It's not just because our Zumba Gold (for seniors) teacher, Stephanie is excellent. It's really for the friends who add so much to my week.
I wish I could be motivated to run or exercise alone. Art does all the time and so does Tiffany and Jonathan, but not me. I guess the kids must take after their father.
They're also better at math and science like their father so that's a good thing too. What do you do for exercise?

I like this post and the photo of your Zumba classmates. I get all too easily bored with exercise classes but I do love walking. I have to find a variety of favorites though. I bought a DVD for Tai Chi as I became interested in doing that recently.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I really need a class to get me to do tai chi. I need an instructor to talk to who will correct my moves.
Deletewhat an amazing building for the Zumba class, its beautiful, I have practiced yoga for years and years and i walk, thats all,
ReplyDeleteYou know what? I do think I'd like to try yoga again some day.
DeleteYou have made it very clear why I go on a schedule to the Y every day during the week: for the companionship with my classmates as well as the exercise. I also can't make myself do what I should unless I have friends with me, too. I should try Zumba Gold -- the other class is too hard for me! :-)
ReplyDeleteHula once a week!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could say I exercise for the joy of it, but that would be a big lie. I do it because I feel like I have to.....mostly lots of walking and machines at the gym.
ReplyDeleteOh, I want to exercise more, But with waiting to get my knees replaced soon one day, it makes it difficult. But I still manage to go for some walks with my dog and the occasional walk with my husband... we just go a little slower and take our time and enjoy the sights a little more! =)
ReplyDeleteMy job provides too much exercise for me.
ReplyDeleteHaving friends you enjoy exercising with takes the "work" out of it.
ReplyDeleteGardening is my main source of exercise and since my riding mower is in the shop, the walk behind is giving me a real work out and it has zero conversation skills. Envy you your class.
I don't think I could do Zumba unless it counts as aerobic exercise. I am only supposed to walk, bike or swim because of my heart disease. I stretch first and then ride my exercise bike every morning for 30 to 50 minutes depending my time constraints. It makes me feel a lot better to begin each day with that program.
ReplyDeleteI am solitary exerciser. It's a time to think and be with my own thoughts or just listen to music and let my body keep pace with the rock beat on my iPod as I walk. I am completely off my routine right now, having had so much to do since returning from our trip. I'll share more about what's been going on next week. today we head for the Oregon coast to join Jill and the kids at the Rockaway cabin. then there is a big family picnic in Oregon on Saturday. I hope to get back to a routine next Monday.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time, Linda! You and Tom have so much energy.
DeleteI go to a exercise every M-W-F and walk most days in between. At exercise class I walk for 20 minutes, then do weights, stretches, etc. I enjoy the moving around and the fellow exercisers
ReplyDeleteSometimes you gotta go back. I realized last night I am going to have to get back to the pool and do the walking exercise to strenghthen my back. I am walking the dog on the odd days, but David does it everyday. How can I let an 84-year old outdo me? Dianne
ReplyDeleteHow are those new shoes working out? What a nice big space to dance in.
ReplyDeletethat's a huge exercise room! I go to the gym regularly and attend the step classes or do the elliptical machine and weights.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten to the corner and back today. LOL
ReplyDeleteYes, I was doing water aerobics 5 days a week. Loved it.
Good for you, Mage!
DeleteI run back and forth between Blogs! Better yet, I'm moving up from some core stretching routines to a bit of walking. With my hearing loss, I've steered away from groupie classes because I don't hear the instructor. I'd be quite a few steps late from the announcer telling folks the next move during square dancing. Cheers, DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteYou are too funny, DrumMajor. I do need to walk more.
DeleteMy exercise is typing comments such as, "Why do you think mastery of the hard sciences is more important than excelling in the arts?" I don't.
ReplyDeleteI didn't phrase that properly. The kids are better than ME at math and the sciences. We do all value the arts highly without a doubt.
DeleteZumba classes are for the young here, way too fast moving for me! I do yoga three times a week, one class and two days by myself, and it has made such a difference in my body. I love it! I also walk a lot, usually before sunrise, because I love being out alone at that time a day.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could wake up at sunrise, but I'm not a great morning person, I'm afraid.
DeleteOn days we don't go to work we "try" to work out for 30 minutes on our machines. It's a challenge for me to do even that much. Unfortunately, I'm fighting obesity due to my back issues (spondylolisthesis and bursitis).
ReplyDeleteL...w
I sure know what bursitis feels like, but I don't know spondylolisthesis. That's a mouthful. It does sound painful!
DeleteBefore we moved I went to several classes a week aimed specifically at seniors, but haven't found anything similar since we moved. I hope to get back to yoga once my wrist and shoulder improve and once I find a decent chiropractor for my back, but meanwhile I walk the dog for about forty minutes every day which seems to be doing me good. I've certainly lost weight since we had the dog!
ReplyDeleteFlights of fancy......
ReplyDeleteI should go to Zumba!
