We were almost giving up on our desert rose.
We kept getting little black bugs on the young leaves and tiny buds that seemed to sap the plant of energy.
You can't see the top branches here but they were pretty bald.
This photo was taken a couple of years ago. It had gotten even worse as time progressed, but I didn't take photos of it.
Look at it now. We can hardly believe it!
We used an organic spray and it seemed to do the job.
I guess there's always hope.

ReplyDeleteWOW...that's a stunning revival.
ReplyDeleteyeah I was about to say, a spray from a garden section of a store would do the trick
ReplyDeleteGlad you went organic...yes, there is always hope.
ReplyDeleteI want to know the name of the spray too. Wonder if it would work on citrus.
ReplyDeleteHi, Kay: I've got 9 desert rose plants, but all potted, and although of varying sizes, smaller than yours. Some have flowered, some have yet to flower (unlike my mother, I'm a dolt when it comes to plants). I'm hoping that one of them will bloom white. So far, no pests (knock wood) have attacked my plants, but I understand that the sphinx moth caterpillar loves desert rose plants (and oleander). I wouldn't have the heart to kill a caterpillar, though (they're huge green things with blue dots on the front end that look like, but aren't, eyes).
ReplyDeleteI've never seen that kind of caterpillar... YET. I'll keep a look eye for them. I hope the bugs stay off the plant now.
DeleteI hope so, too. What a lovely flower.
ReplyDeleteI love this resurrection story. Dianne
ReplyDeleteFantastic improvement. It's so beautiful now, and organically, too. Good for you and Art.

Love love love it, it's so beautiful. Patience, love, and a lot of TLC does the trick, glad to see this little beauty survived and made such a spectacular comeback.
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely Kay and I would also be interested in that organic spray also when you get it. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, to answer your question about my photo that I turned into a cartoon, the app is called ToonCamera and it is $1.99 for my iPAD.
I'll let you all know about that spray when I'm able to. Thank you for the name of that ToonCamera app. It looks like so much fun!
DeleteDoes it save the photos you alter straight to your photostream or camera roll? I tried the free version to see how it worked and I couldn't access the altered photo.
Wow, yes, we want to know what you used. Lovely
